Brakes

Is it normal that I have to replace the brakes on this truck at 50,000 km? I do very little hauling with the truck.

That is about 31,000 miles. In my opinion and observation it is a little soon however there are other factors beyond mileage that affect brake wear such as driving habits and operating conditions. If the brake wear is even then there usually is no problem with the truck. How worn are talking about? What is the brake lining measurement in milimeters?

Replaced the front pads. One side had about 1/4 wear, the other side was just about shot. Obviously was not wearing evenly.

Mine need replacing too at about 40,000 miles. My neighbor's Mercury Van needed new rears. They were pretty uneven too. I don't think it's that uncommon. I pulled the pistons and they looked great. Anyway, the insides were about down to nothing and the outsides had better than half remaining. I'll post again when I finish my brakes in the next day or two if the rain will ever let up.

Well, the rain let up so I replaced my fronts... Well, they were even but not very worn. Since I already had the new pads, I changed them over. Now, I'm hoping to not have to change them again for a few years. I haven't tackled the back yet since the pads (which were the same) didn't come in till it started raining again... Tomorrow I'll get on them.
