Chrome Rims and winter weather

This is the first winter I will be spending in the northern United States, and I have chrome rims. I have been told that the salt and chemicals that are put on the roads will eat through the chrome. My question is... Is there something I can put on my rims to stop this from happening or should I just put my stock wheels and tires back on untill the spring time?

Just keep them clean, If they have no rock chips then the salt wont get to the bare metal. You can clear coat them but it flakes and looks like crap in a couple years time.

Giving the wheels a good coat of wax helps too.

Both my grandfather and myself have had and have lots of stainless steel and chrome on our trucks. We use WD-40. Just a coating every so often keeps off the bad stuff. When it is nasty outside, just take an old rag, wipe off the heavy stuff, then spray down your wheels nerf bars, or what ever you have and wipe. I have not had any issues in over 5 years of doing this and he has been doing over 3 decades in PA, which gets nasty snow too (SW PA).

If you have the stock wheels I would put them on for the winter. I always put the stock wheels on for winter on all my vehicles.

I've heard lots of stories from the rim companies over here in MN about this same issue. So I've always just stuck the stock stuff on over the winter just to be on the safe side. I know we spend a butt load of money on different rims for our trucks so I don't want to take any chances with mother nature.
Just my 2cents, hope this helps ya out buddy.
