Diesel Particulate Filter Question

Wondering about the DPF units on our trucks.

Are these things mandated by law? A brief Google search yielded little more than schools and municipalities bragging about their "new and improved" buses... Any insight into laws in Maine in particular?

I know cats are required if one came with the vehicle... Is the same true with the DPF?

Thanks

Diesel particulate filter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Should answer most of your questions. Don't know what state you are in but here in Calif. any modification of emmissions is against the law.

If Ford puts a DPF on their trucks to meet EPA standards, it is against the law to remove or tamper with the DPF.

If you have the truck in your signature you do not have a DPF. They only started to put them on the 2008's

Lets give our head a firm shake.... the people that built your truck would dearly love to make the most profit they can.... Unfortunately, the EPA has decided we need to be protected from ourselves (thank God for small wonders)..... If your truck was fitted with an emissions control device when it was built - there's a pretty good chance it should remain there.
