extended warranty question

Hey guys, picking up a new 08 F-250 this sunday. Is Ford the only place that you can get an extended warranty? I have been pretty involved with a motorcycle forum the last couple of years, and I know that several people have bought and had good success with buying extended warranties on ebay. Is this even a possibility with these trucks.

Thanks,
Barry

You can purchase them on line. Alot cheaper than at the dealer. See link below:

There are lots of companies that sell extended warranties, but almost all of them are crooks. I would not buy any extended warranty except one of the several versions of the Ford Extended Service Plan (ESP).

However, you can buy the ESP from somebody other than your dealer. My dealer makes a heck of a deal to all members of TheDieselStop. First get educated on the various ESP options available, then call Danny Ireton at 1-800-953-3321 to get his price on the one you want.

There are several versions of the ESP. From one that covers almost everything almost forever and costs a bundle, to one that covers almost nothing for a short time but is dirt cheap - and several in between.

So get an ESP brochure and decide which ESP you want (and are willing to pay for), then check the price with some of those internet sources, then call Danny.

Personally, I never buy extended warranties on vehicles. On our trucks, if you take excellent care of it, anything that's not going to last will need fixing before the Ford bumper-to-bumper warranty expires. Mine needed nothing during the warranty period, and has needed very little since then (180,000 miles now). So any money I spent for an extended warranty would have been money wasted.

Spend some time in the library reading back issues of Consumer Reports about extended warranties. They list lots of the companies that sound great but don't pay off when you need them. Most extended warranties have pages and pages of fine print, and most of the fine print limits what they will pay for. And they don't pay for much.

Thanks Smokey, So I'm guessing that you also don't have to buy the ext. warr. at the time of purchase. I'm picking up the truck tomorrow, I'll listen to my dealer's price on the warr. and then give you guy a call. I havent been around here much the last couple of years, been hanging around alot of motorcycle sites, it's good to see an old familiar face. I'm gonna post a new thread about the new truck checklist, but if you read this soon, could ya point me in the right direction for a copy that I can print off. I'm quite sure you have one saved somewhere.

on edit,, never mind about the checklist,, I found it.

Thanks,
Barry
