Question F450 Insurance

New to the site and new owner of a 2008 F450.

Now for the problem. Everyone I have called for insurance wants to change the policy to a commercial one stating the weight puts it out of range for a traditional personal use auto policy and the cost is about what it costs for full coverage on my THREE other vehicles combined!

So, who do you have your F450 Insured with, and if you don't mind, what is ballpark on your rates every 6 months?

Thanks for the info. This is a great site and I can already see that I will be spending countless hours here learning!

You might try these guys: PoliSeek RV Insurance Co.

Heard someone else had good luck with combining RV and truck together for less.

I have MetLife on autos and home. When changing from 350 to 450, they first balked--couldn't find the 450 by VIN (everything in their computers for auto insurance is driven by the VIN, I guess) so agent had to sweet-talk them into it. A lot hinged on that I was not in the hauling of loads business, just pulling an RV. About $400/year more then an '07 F350. I think Progressive will insure it no problem. There is a BIG difference if you are going to use it commercially for ANYTHING.

I have tried Poliseek(just the online quote system...will have to call on Monday to speak with someone) and they could only come up with Travelers for more than 2K every 6mos to insure my four vehicles. And to give you an idea, right now I am paying $867 every 6 months for three of those...so no dice.

I also spoke with GMAC(Good Sam) and they wanted to write me a "semi" policy that must include a 5th wheel or tag-a-long trailer...no truck campers.

I have made it VERY clear to them that this truck will likely sit much of the year and will be for all intensive purposes an RV for pleasure use only.

Progressive Direct, and my local agent, said there is nothing they can do to insure it on a personal policy...only the commercial policy for $18XX/year.

I have a few calls in to local agents with Allstate, State Farm, etc. so I will keep you posted on what I find out.

what is your driving history and record? Try MetLife, I swapped an F-350 to an F-450 with no problem on a personal policy. No real increase to speak of with full coverage. Run as fast as you can from progressive or Geico if you ever need to file a claim!!!!

You had a problem with Geico? I have had it since 1995. Have had a couple of accidents, they were my fault. No problems.

Driving history...licensed at 16, now 34. Never had a speeding ticket or been in an accident. Never had a claim filed for anything on my auto policies!

I am going to spend some time on the phone tomorrow to see what I can find out from some of the other companies.

Welcome to the wonderful world of insuring, maintaining and licensing a F450. I bought my truck in April 2007 and have had a commercial policy with Progressive with million dollar liability up until last week. I am now with Liberty Mutual and it dropped $700 a year. What state are you in, I pay $710 a year for tags. Truck just hit 16K!

Geico: ~$800 a year for $500 deductible, 100K/300K,etc... been with them 23 years, couple of accidents (no fault states), zero problems... one house, one car, one truck, one 5th wheel rv with them. Had no problem insuring the 450... all they asked me is if I was going to use it for any commercial work.. my answer was no, just hauling the rv.

Alright, I have spent many hours this week on the phone with several different agencies and have been told similar stories by most..."its a commercial vehicle...no personal policy, and no commercial policy if you will be using it for personal or recreational use"...

Anyway, Geico finally came through today after calling her underwriter directly. Got a policy for $450/6 mos!! Yeah, I know it is not as cheap as some of you guys are getting it, but compared to what else I have been told I am jumping on it!

Thanks for all the input and replies!

Have a great weekend!

Josh

I have State Farm and it is not a commercial.
I pay right at 900 a year.100,250,500 with 100 deductible.
Tags suck though, 909 this year. Damn money spending idiots expecting tax payers to bail them out.

Some friends of mine use Farm Bureau with the same cost as F 350. Around $240 a month.
