I am just wondering if you followed through on this? I am currently trying to check for coverage on a 2010 F-450 and I am getting very mixed signals. I have called USAA three times, been told no once and yes twice in the last month. Geico said no and then yes when I called back a half hour later. Travelers, Progressive, Allstate, and Nationwide have all referred me to local brokers but it doesn't seem promising based on others results about local broker attempts.

Does anyone have a rock solid success story??? I don't really want to get a letter in a few months saying "your coverage will end on "insert date here" because we will no longer cover your vehicle.

Tags suck though, 909 this year. Damn money spending idiots expecting tax payers to bail them out.

I just insured my 2010 F-450 and I do not even have it yet. Express Insurance for 909.00 per year. My 02 was 500.00 per year. I think I was lucky. I had no problems financing or insuring it. I know Good Sam will insure too.

Yes...I insured with Geico for $412 every 6 mos. By far the cheapest policy even for personal coverage only. Good Sam would have insured it, but only if I was insuring a fifth wheel at the same time so they could consider it an RV but not only was the truck policy more expensive, the RV policy was about 4X what my Dad pays for the same coverage(and I used his trailer specs to get a quote)!

I had to do some prodding with Geico, but the girl said she needed to call her underwriter to get some firm answers for me and 30 min. later she called back and offered the $457 every 6 mos. After I added the rest of my vehicles to the policy, the price dropped to $412 and they beat Progressives rates on all of my other vehicles as well.
for Geico.

YMMV. Josh

USAA sent me to Progressive where we insure the truck as an "RV" with a "sister" policy for the trailer. Could only do this with truck and trailer. Truck, only, was a "no-go". It appears that Progressive has select agents to handle "crossover" USAA members. Been this way for a year. so far, so good.

That is how they insured my set up also. Truck designed to pull the fifthwheel. Not going to be used as a commercial puller. At the time I insured the fiver, the limit was nothing over 36 ft. that was 05. Now they have extended it to 38 ft. reasoning was so many fivers are getting longer, they made the adjustment.

When I looked at buying a F550, the insurance nightmare is what turned me off. The RV policies often had mileage clauses - limited maximum miles per year, and a much more restricted mileage for the truck unloaded.

Make sure you know what the mileage limits are.

Thanks for the tip. I went back in and found out that my rate is based on my driving 8K per year. Even then I said that I was most likely not going to drive that much, but who knows, it could be 4 K one year and 12 K another. as long as it averages 8k over the life of the policy, they are not going to concern themselves.

To be honest, I am not sure what would happen if I went over that mileage consecutive years.

$527.56 for 6 months with USAA... Full coverage... $500 deductible. Maybe not the cheapest price, but USAA has really taken care of me for about 23 years now. No hassles with claims.

I tried to go with USAA for a F550, but they couldn't do a policy for me. They sent me to Progressive (which I believe handles their medium truck policies) and they told me that they could not give me a policy to use the truck for personal use.

They were happy to gice me a commercial policy - but when I told them I would use it for hauling a truck camper and driving to work, they just couldn't figure it out. They get even more confused if they start talking weight - they asked me how much the truck weighed - I told them 9100 pounds, but they wanted to argue and tell me it was more than 10,000.

It was about then that I starting to get fed up fighting with idiots.

How have you managed to keep the truck insured with USAA? I see you are at Hill Air Force Base, so maybe because you are active duty, USAA kept you on? I see your avatar is a picture of your truck and trailer. Do you have the truck and trailer insured together with USAA? Just wondering if you set the policy up in some fashion that makes it personal use only that USAA was willing to insure the truck for you.

I have my current 2003 F350 and 1991 Mustang with USAA and they sent me to Progressive when I asked about the new F450.

I'm wondering the same thing. Could it be the state laws, regulations, etc, that's driving the difference? David
