My bad, I had read somewhere they took 100lbs. That's still a good amount of weight in the rear!

Oh, no - wasn't meant to be a bad!! Us F450 pickup guys can get away with less. I have no idea what the chassis-cab guys are using or what's recommended I could easily see that 100 psi being for those guys given our fiver's tires are recommended to carry 125 psi! I'll try to be better at writing next time!!! Sorry! David

Hahahaha! That wasn't meant to be a dig at your post, "my bad" is just a slang for my mistake, as I was mistaken and you corrected me.

actually the Continentals are good for 110psi and continental publishes a table on their website of what pressures provide what load carrying capability.

I run 80 in the fronts and 70-75 in the rears unloaded.

Pulling the trailer I up the rears to 100psi

I wouldn't give you 50 cents for those C*ntinentals. They suck bad. Too many issues over the years with them. Almost anything is better than C*ntinentals.

The 19.5" Continentals have only been used since the 2008 MY. The 18" Continentals Ford uses however are trash and we make the dealer change them before taking delivery of a truck.

from what I can see in the ordering guide, the 2011 F450 is not an F450, its a F350. To wit

No 19.5” wheels
Smaller brakes
Lower GVWR – 13,000#
Lower GCWR – ??,000#
No DANA 110 rear axle
Possibly no 4:30 rear end
No wide front Axle track and tighter turn radius
600# weight reduction but 1500# reduction oin GVWR

these are the things that make an F450 an F450. I'm amazed by three things:

1. stupidity like this thrives under Mulally's leadership
2. Ford again abandons a market segment they have to themselves (remember Excursion?)
3. Ford took their ques from talking to customers. Which F450 owner would request such things?

The fact is I can't use this truck to pull the 5th wheel I have now and the altrernatives all cost more.

Most likely they asked 250 owners. Why didn't you buy a 450?

If you take another look at the 2011 order guide you will find that some of your statements above are not completely accurate...

The GCWR will remain 33,000 lbs.
4.30 LS is the only axle ratio available on the 2011 F-450 P/U.
The wide track front axle will also carry over, however it will be based on a DANA 60 rather then a DANA Super 60.

As for the reduction in GVWR, that is simply to help sales. Many found it way to difficult (if not impossible) to register or insure a truck with a 14,500 GVWR (which is considered a medium duty truck) in their state without being classified as commercial. For this reason many avoided buying the truck.

the issue is simple for me - I have a 450. Lowering the GVWR means loss of capability. Less payload.

A 430 rear end in a Dana 80 and small brakes pulling 24000# - no thanks. Might pull it, wont stop it.

what the new F450 is actually is an F350 tow boss.

So the 450 has smaller brakes, tires, and less gear ratio. I bet Ford knew the the old 450 buyer would opt for a 2011 F550. I also bet that the previous 350 owners would opt for a 2011 F450 in order to get the wider axle, 4.30 gears, that will run over 80mph with a pick up bed. Remember that the new truck will have a lower 1st gear and double overdrive. Ford is nudging you to move up one level.

the 550 has no appeal to me because it can't be equipped like the 2010 F450 pickup.

And if I going to go to the hassle of buying a chassis cab and finishing it I'd be looking at a whole lot more than a 550 for similar money.
