Welcome Dave! And congrats on your new F-450! First, I have the 4:30 rear end and I now have 21,000 on mine. At first I got 10.5 driving normally, no quick starts and 75% Highway never over 70mph.
Now I get 12.2 under same conditions, but I can actually get 15.0 but that's taking off very slowly and not going above 60. It's a brick, so if anyone tells you they get better mileage at 75 vs 65 it ain't so.
The last time I towed was at approx. 12,000-15,000 miles. The tow vehicle was a 31ft 5th Wheel, extra tall at 13'2" and weighing in @ 12,000lbs and just over 22,000lbs with passengers etc.
On the Rolling Hills of South Texas it gots 7.5 with a good head wind, 8.5 with little or no wind, and 9.4-9.7 with a 15-20mph tailwind.
When it was new I towed the 5th wheel from San Antonio to Orlando pushing 70mph on mostly flat ground in daytime temps of over 100 in high humitity. Pulled like to dream! Trans temp and engine temp never moved but got only 5.8-6.4! (wanted to trade) At about 12,000 miles pull same trailer to DC in a hurry! Stormed over the Great Smokey's and Blue Ridge Mountains like I was pulling a landscape trailer. Got about 7.5 round trip. Engine had Mobile 1 15-40.
