Gas or diesel

Im going to be in the market for a F-350 in the near future probibly with in the next 12 months . Its going to be used manly for traveling gravel roads roughtly 150-200 km a day. Just trying to decide between the Gasser or diesel. I had a 2003 F-350 with the 6.0L and loved it.

Hard choice with the price trend of diesel. I'd say it more depends on wether you actually need the power/torque of the diesel. What are you towing? Why do you NEED a 350? SRW or DRW? What percentage of the time are you running unloaded?

With the price of diesel now and the mileage these new trucks get , I am personally considering going with a v10 in my next truck unless there is some drastic changes by then.

SRW, the reason im getting one is bc of the constant pounding the road gives the front end. The reason i liked the diesel before is when it gets muddy the fuel milage was not hurt as bad as in gas trucks. I would be running mostly unloaded. but can pack as much as 1,200 in the box at any given time and all the weight of the mud adds up. The odd time i would end up hauling a skid steer around and are holiday tralilor.

There is no more advantage to diesel anymore with the piss poor mileage of the 6.4l. Go buy a used 6.0 or 7.3l truck. You will save a ton of money, and get WAY better MPG's. At this point, I will never buy a new one. Gas is cheaper, and the gas truck now get basically the same mileage in stock configuration.

THINK we'll ever see the 17-21 mpg range again in a diesel?

A friend and I were discussing this the other night. He has a gasser and gets around 12 MPG avg driving. Our local station the gas price was 3.40 and diesel was 4.03. So using 3.4: 12 = 4.03:x I came up with 14.22, so it looks like at a .60 spread if a diesel get 2 to 3 more MPG than a gas the fuel cost is about the same. Of course there are a lot of other consideration. I was just looking at the fuel. And as the gas milage goes up the difference also increases. The same as with the price spread and who knows where that will be. I say buy what you want and what you need for the job at hand. Who knows where this fuel thing is going. Maybe it will get back to gas is higher than diesel. Anyway that's my .02 worth and that is what it's worth.

Good luck

I've come from years of driving nothing but gassers. I owned two custom lifted gassers for about eight years, and I consistently got less than 10 mpg. I spent as much as $500 a month in gas between the two trucks during the summer months and $250-$300 during non-summer--with one of the trucks being driven only about once or twice a month.

Now that I have a diesel, I'm spending about $40-$50 less per month. Over time, it's not that bad. My truck will stay as close to stock as possible. Over time, I think the costs will not exceed what I was spending on my other trucks.

Anyway... diesel ftw.... or whatever cases you need it for! :-)

Is this new diesel truck that cost $40-$50 less per month lifted like the other trucks were?
