It's a common problem, do a search for TPMS and you'll get plenty of results, there is currently no fix. If it's controlled by the trucks computer, there could eventually be a fix by one of the tuners, but if it's controlled by the sensors themselves then it would require new sensors.

I went through this when I traded in my '05 for my '08. I wanted to keep the rims on my '05 (style preference). I was told that the tire pressure sensors are on the rims, and that there was NO WAY to shut the dash light off . I opted for the factory rims. Sorry man, I think you are SOL.

i have read somewere else that you can put all the sensors in a small tire, like a wheelbarrow tire throw that in your tool box and that will work any body try this?

Thats so simple it just might work! As long as you can find a wheelbarrow tire that goes up to the right psi, and the sensors come off of the rims.
I've heard of some making a cylinder out of PVC pipe with an air valve in one end. Put the sensors in the cylinder, mount it to the frame, and air it up.

For God's sake do not use PVC for that. PVC is not rated for air pressure, and can act like a bomb. If you want to do something like this, make it out of black iron pipe, or get a small 5g home tank.

Sensors are attached with metal bands, just need to cut the band to remove the sensor. Others have put all the sensors in the spare, assuming the spare is a also rated for the same pressure.

doesnt it have to get rolling to 30 mph to get the sensor to activate.

Sorry fella's, I also had this problem when I wanted to keep my 06' wheels and put them on my 08' F350. The Dealer never informed me about the TPMS issue and I was in the same boat as you all. It cost me like $80 bucks to have the dealer take the sensors out of the new truck wheels and I like you, read where you could put them into a cylinder, pump to correct pressure and all would be fine....Not the case, it doesn't work!
Don't waste your time, I'm telling you first hand. Now what I have appears to be a pipe bomb sitting in my truck box, God forbid I ever get pulled over???
You (and I) need to buy new bands (I've seen the kits on eBay) and have the sensors banded onto your "old" rims. You then have to use the little module that came with the truck and go around to each tire and set the sensors. To me, it's really a pain in the keester but it's on all new vehicles and we'll just have to learn to live with it.
In my opinion, it's because too many people are just too lazy to check their tire pressure on a regular basis, resulting in low pressure, blow outs, accidents, etc. Now, the Government has stepped in to try and save the lives of these folks and for those of us who do own a 2 dollar tire pressure guage and know how to use it will suffer the additional aggravation and additional cost for the whole new TPMS system....just my 2 cents worth.
So, now it's time to get rid of what appears to be a metal pipe bomb, take out the sensors and bite the bullet and have them banded to my 06' rims.....
Hope this information helps?
Have a great Holiday weekend, cheers from the Colorado Rockies!
