Limited Slip Question

My truck is equipped with a limited slip rear diff. Unfortunatey it seems to have a lot more slip than I like. This causes me to have to use my 4wd just to get up a paved drive with a little snow cover. So my question is Can I do something to help it lock up better, giving it the berries only causes the traction control to engage which doesn't seem to do much but cut engine power to nothing. Perhaps there are others out there that have similar issues.

Unfortunately a limited slip requires torque to push the side gears against the clutches and thus grab both wheels. In ice, snow, or wet grass it will be useless because of the low input torque required to spin the tire. They are effective on pavement and dry dirt. You can drain the oil and refill without or with less additive, but then you'll get more tire wear.

A trick I"ve learned to use when I'm in the mud or slippery grass, going forward, is to slip the transmission into 2nd gear instead of first. First in the automajic has so much torque that it won't take anything at all to slip the wheels, but I can get out of slippery spots relatively easy starting out in 2nd. At least it works for the 4r100 transmission. I would think it would work in the newer transmission too.

My 02 had the standard LS rear and it also let a lot of slip. My 08 doesn't seem quite as bad. I think a locker or maybe a T2R like I have in my race car are the only rear solutions.

It will work on the newer trans. There's even a better way on the TorqShift - you can start that trans in 3 and it will start in 3rd gear.
