Lightbulb Need your perspective & opinion on Extended Warranty

My dealer has been pushing the "Diesel EngineCARE Plus" 7 year 200k extended warranty. With the cab lift almost a necessity for anything from injector service to changing the serpentine belts, etc. I'm torn between going for the extended warranty or not. The other issue concerns the eventual removal of the DPF (post warranty) when and if suitable aftermarket exhaust systems and tuners are available that can significantly improve mileage. If I spring for the $2,350 extended warranty... I'm basically guaranteeing a 7 year stock truck versus 5. Any opinions, experiences, suggestions are appreciated.

If you install "ANY" aftermarket product to your 08 engine (exhaust, chip, air intake etc..),

warrenty will be null and void. It's that simple.

However, I was told by a Ford service manager, if you install any aftermarket parts, exhaust, intake etc.. keep your old parts, then if you have engine failure, re-install the factory parts (all of them), throw a little dirt on the items you replaced then there is a better chance there will be no questions asked.

As for the extended warrenty, dam if you do, dam if you don't.

I purchased that warranty for my truck with the main reason being that the 6.4L PSD is a new engine, albeit about a year old when I purchased my truck. I'm sure we all know the trials and tribulations of the 6.0L PSD engine. Note that the 5 yr./100K standard warranty still has a $100 deductible after the 3 yr./36K bumper-to-bumper warranty expires. There is no deductible with the 7 yr./200K warranty (at least that's what the finance manager told me).

I figure if the engine lasts 7 years (I won't get 200K miles in that time frame) without major problems, then I won't be upset on spending the $2400 up front.
