Radio volume control on steering wheel

I was wondering if the spot on the steering wheel where volume control would go is wired already. Then I could buy part and pop it in. If that can be accomplished does anyone know the part number?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and speculate that, even if you could just buy the switches and plug them in, there would be some reprograming of the CPU needed.

I called the dealer yesterday, they said that I would need to get a new steering wheel. Cost $689.00, I told him that I could reach for the volume knob for that I kind of money.

I don't know why they're blowing smoke up your rear like that. It blows my mind that these trucks have so many different OPTIONS. Thing is, that it doesn't make ANY sense from a manufacturing standpoint to have more than one baseline because it'd cost TOO MUCH to add things on. Trust me... there's a retrofit out there... you just need to find it. And I'll be willing to bet you that you won't need to reprogram ANYTHING. The cabling is all there... it's up to you to find it.

That is what I thought also. It is the same wheel I just need the control. I will call another dealer and see if I can just get the volume part. I can't imagine having 4 or 5 steering wheels dependent on what you buy. We all know that Ford isnt going to do that when they won't put in 5$ wheel well liners.

Used to think that way too until I tried to add defogger mirrors to my 04 F150 (new body). Even the shop manager thought the proper wiring should be there. Ended up that we had to put in a whole new fuse block for one stinking fuse!! Got my defogger mirrors, but had they not done me a favor, it would have cost me over $600!! I think the option orginally cost like $110 had I gotten them with the truck.
So I wouldn't be at all surprised that you have to buy the entire wheel based on my experience.
