Removing Rear Rotors

I'm getting ready to remove and replace them and the disc pads in rear. Do the Ebrakes give a probem or special tools needed to remove these rotors? Maybe a 10lb sledge hammer? I just did my wifes Jeep Liberty and there was no star will in the slots showing on her ebrakes to back them off so a 10lb'er did it.

Your E-brake is inside the hub. On the 7.3L SRWs, the hub and disk were one unit, so you got involved with the drum brakes when removing the rear disk. But it sounds like on your 2008 that the disk can be seperated from the hub and you leave the hub on the truck, so you don't have to mess with the drum brake E-brakes. But I didn't spend a lot of time analyzing the workshop manual, so let us know if I led you down the primrose path.

To remove the rear disk, first remove the calipers, anchor plates and brake pads. The workshop manual has seperate procedures for each step. Here are most of the words from the workshop manual, but they're not in the right sequence so read the whole thing before you begin. I deleted the words applicable to DRWs, so that's why some paragraph numbers are missing.

The E Brake shoes engage the Rotor. There is a rubber plug buried in the back surrounded by support brackets..The star wheel is in there. Mine came off with some tapping but now I need to adjust the star wheels for EBrake and like an idiot I didn't write down which way to turn the star wheel to tighten. I can't turn the wheel by hand to check drag because it's too hard for me to turn..I'm just going to turn the star wheel until I get Resistance and see if the parking brake pedal is firm and wheels are locked I guess.
