Does anyone know if it is possible to wire the stock tailgate camera to an upfitter switch. I would like to be able to turn the camera on while in park or drive. Currently only comes on while in reverse.
PS New to the forum thing, so if this topic has already been talked about I am sorry. I am unfamiliar with search capabilities. Mike
Everything is possible. Just gotta find the hot wire for the circuit. I don't have an 08, but the wiring diagrams would be most helpful. You would need the circuit that turns on the camera and mirror.

Yes it is possible. Look behind the passanger side kick panel for a good size connector (57 pin, I believe). There is a Green/Brown wire that runs from this connector up the a-pillar and over to the mirror. This is the wire that you would want to isolate from the connector and tie into the upfitter switch.

No, but you do not want to backfeed power towards the IP on that wire as it is a common wire used by the reverse lights (truck and trailer), rear camera and reverse sensors (if equipped). Failure to isolate the wire would cause the reverse lights and reverse sensors to activate every time the upfitter switch is flipped, regardless if the truck is in reverse or not...

I can tell you my camera works in reverse and is also hooked up to an upfitter with my auxillary reverse lights. When I flip the switch the reverse lights come on and the camera. Unfortunately I didn't do it myself so I have no idea how it's done, but it can be done.

When in park, neutral or drive, do the trucks reverse lights come on when you activate the camera and aux reverse lights via the upfitter switch?

Just a guess, But using a diode in the circuit would stop the backfeed.

Yes, my intention was to have the 4 ausillary reverse lights on an upfitter and I think it was just dumb luck that the camera was on there. I'm sure there's a way to do just the camera and not the lights.
Ok stupid question? Which type of diode would I use, rectifier, signal or ?? i believe it is a rectifier diode but not sure. If possible can someone suggest one, including the part number? Also does it matter on which side of the upfitter switch I install the diode?
Mjcloud: There is no such thing as a stupid question, it’s the stupid answers you have to worry about. I ordered the switches on my truck, but don’t have the camera. Please, if your not comfortable working with electronics, find a friend or expert in your area that can assist you. You sure don’t want to damage the electronics in your truck. I thought someone on the forum would have done this already and pass on the knowledge. I haven’t had a time to wire my switches yet. Also a shop that puts in remote starts, alarms and car radio’s could be a good source of information.
As far as the diode, you can get them at Radio Shack for one place, as for the where the diode is put in the circuit, I have not looked at the wiring print (But I know there around). I’m not sure if the camera turns on when power is applied to the camera. So I’m guessing right now, but I would think that the diode should be put in the camera power feed wire to stop back feed to the truck electronics and possibly the load side of the up fitter switch for extra protection. When time permits I’ll see if I can find you the necessary info.
