Tailgate step - opinions

Please share your thoughts and experiences with the new 08 tailgate step. I have heard jealous Chevy owners spreading rumors that people are having problems with these. Is there any truth to this?

I swear I am not a troll. I really think that this is a great feature. I just want to know that this is for real and not just for show. I am a big guy (just under 300 lbs) and would hate to break it the first month.

Thanks,

Lee

I don't know about weight wise, but I use the hell out of it when I go dirt biking, very convenient to use.

Mine doesn't seem to have any problem with my 230 lbs. plus up to 50 pounds of whatever I'm carrying (like my Honda eu2000i generator. The knees aren't getting any younger and it sure makes it easy to get in and out.

The only down side that I've encountered is that you don't have a flat surface with the tailgate down (for sliding plywood in and out).

I tested it out and the only thing I thought a bit wobbly was the handle. Otherwise I think it is about one of the greatest additions to a pick up truck.

I wonder if Ford has a posted weight limit on that step?

If not they would be in for one hell of a law suit if someone broke it merely by using it as intended.

I think it has a weight limit on the sticker which reads 300lbs. Im not sure though.

In either case I love mine and I use it quite a bit and at 245lbs it doesnt seem to be weak or anything.

I use mine everytime I have to get in and out of the back of the truck and it works great. The only draw back is the humpy tailgate. It hasn't been a problem though. I have to haul those big helium bottles for my wife every now and then. I just lean the bottle against the tailgate, grab the bottom and up and in right over the handle and it's holding up well. Just a little skinned off paint. Usually when someones checking out your new truck, the tailgate step is the coolest thing about it! I like the step but I could live without it.

Best thing since sliced bread; a very unique idea. I would order it again and again.

Definitely very happy with the tailgate step. The whole family uses it; the wife and I and even the dog.

The only issue I have noticed is when I am sweeping out the bed it is a little harder to get everything swept off the tailgate. Insignificant price to pay in my opinion.

I like the step, never use the handle, and hate the tailgate panel. I've thought about replacing the panel with diamond plate or even plain sheet metal but haven't looked underneath to examine feasibility.

I do not regrett adding this relatively expensive option, and I recommend it.

I love the step. Never use the handle. I would like to get rid of the handle because it gets in the way of my "Bed Rug". Tailgate portion of the rug is laying loose.

I think I read that the weight limit on the step is 500lbs.

I use my step all the time. I hated the handle/plastic liner so I removed the handle and put a regular inspection cover back on then Line-xed the whole thing.

Tail gate step

I would not have ordered the step, but it was on the only truck truck I could find at the time with everything else I wanted.

I love the step now that I have it. The wife and I use it all the time.

A great first by FORD.

You guys rock. This is exactly the kind of input I was hoping for. AND the exact answers I was hoping to hear. Definitely a plus that helps pull FORD ahead of the rest.

Same here. I would not have ordered it, but it was on the truck. Works as advertised with no problems.
