TPMS problems

Has anyone had issues with the TPMS giving a problem reading when there was nothing wrong? My truck has 3500 miles on it and I've gotten a warning three times. I've checked the pressure with a gauge each time and it's been fine. I just haven't made it to the dealer yet to have it checked out.

What is "fine"? If the tire pressures are not set in accordance with the door sticker....

"Fine" would be what the door sticker says.

Not trying to insult your intelligence here, but what the door sticker says is for COLD tires. If you've driven more than a mile, then your tires are warm and that in turn will give you higher tire pressure readings. How significant of a difference will it be? Might be enough to make you think that you have enough air in your tires.

I've checked them cold and they read the correct pressures.

I'll see if the dealer can figure it out. It would be nice if the system would tell you what tire had the problem.

TPMS ? on the 08's? I didn't know they had the option. I've got the Doran 360RV system setting in a box with 12 sensors for the truck and 5ver. What did the option cost for the truck and 6 tires?

It's actually mandatory now by the government, beginning with the Job 2 trucks. Some early Job 2 trucks didn't get it, but the later Job 2 and all Job 3 trucks have it installed by law now. Whether you can get the dealer to add them, I don't know.

They are actually a good idea, just the majority of us have changed our tires and raised our trucks. The new tires don't have the 65PSI rating that the computer is looking for in most cases. So it flags a TPMS error on the console screen. Were hoping that the different tuners will enable us to program that setting in the future, but currently, none of them offer that option.

Well thats it then, my truck is a early job 2. Oh well. At least I have the Doran 360RV system. I can't see being without TPMS when pulling a trailer with 2 or more axles. 12 tires for me is allot to worry about.

Actually, I hate this thing. It is the one thing objectionable about my truck. The dealer said there is no way to disable it. My BFG's take 50 lb all around not the 55 front/70 rear called for stock. The only way I see to solve the problem is to see if any other Ford vehicle has tires that require 50 psi, then switch out the sensors on the rims. If that isn't the answer, then the problem is on the other end- deep in the guts of the computer. I wish there was a way around this. What I see happening is the button on the odo wearing out, since I have to push the damn thing every time I get in the truck to get rid of the "low tire pressure" message. I got my tires from my dealer. What pissed me off is that, at 8,000 miles, I ran over a nail. I had the tire repaired, and tried to clear the code- it wouldn't. It was then I found out that my dealer put stock pressure in my aftermarket tires just so the alarm wouldn't come on. It's a good thing I found out quickly. If my tires had worn out in the middle from being over-inflated, someone would be replacing my tires!

that is my exact scenario
tirestore down the road installed BFG's at 0 miles
at 10,000 miles I find a nail ( thansk TPMS) and find that tire at 50 ( spec) and find the other 3 BFG's are at 65 and tire wear looks high near the center
they fix the tire and put them all to 65 again!!!
I stop at the dealer to say i need them to recalibrate for my aftermarket tires and the arrogant service managers says ..... is it a problem with all 4...
I didn't know. and explained what the tire store did.
He said that is why you should rely on us experts

so I go home with my tail between my legs, and drop all tires down to 50psi where they should be

sure enough. warning comes back on
who is the expert now??... no one apparently !!!!!!
and i now have VERY expensive tires that were wearing on the center for 10,000 miles

so now i need to go back to the dealer where they will tell me that it cannot be adjusted......
yet someone else on the board here said their dealer DID recalibrate..... or did they fool him by pumping them to 65.......?????

AAARG!!

so, if anyone can verify that a dealer is capable of recalibrating the pressure settings. please post . thanks

Ramb

TPMS can be adjusted or disabled. The problem is Ford has not and will not provide the instructions to dealers and it is my understanding that you need a old NGS+ computer (which most techs no longer have) to alter the configuration in the GEM and ICM.

The only thing Ford has told dealers is that it is against federal regulations to tamper with or alter the TPMS system and that it is punishable with some substantial fines if they do...

If you look in your manual you will find that each and every Super Duty was supposed to receive a TPMS FOB that will readjust your existing tire pressures. I had the same issue on mine when it was new. I took it to a Lincoln dealer and he used his FOB to change and reset all of my tires to 67 lbs. He had to reset each tire seperately. That was a year ago and the only time it has gone off was when I had a low tire (50 lbs), had it checked and I had a bad stem. My wife has a Lincoln LT and her's has gone off 4 times....all for nails in her tires. So, the bottom line for me is, I love that system.

The TPMS FOB only comes with trucks that have split tire pressures (different front and rear). This would be trucks with 17" and 18" wheels, but not 20" wheels. The FOB is only used to let the TPMS system know where the tire is on the vehicle after a tire rotation so you do not get a false low pressure warning. The FOB will do nothing to change the low pressure set points of the system.

BTW... 67 psi is within the acceptable pressure range wether your truck was originally equipped with 17", 18" or 20" factory wheels, so you would not get a low pressure warning. So what the guy at the lincoln dealer did for you was really nothing...

Well, the Lincoln shop fellow did get my "low tire pressure" light to go off after the tire was filled to the right pressure and was still on. By the way, yesterday, my TPMS light went off; went to the tire shop, had a pin hole in the sidewall....new tires today. Without my TPMS, I could have gone into the vast Idaho wilderness and woke up with a flat.

tpms

I live in western PA. Bought this truck in November 07. The day I got it home I lowered the tire pressures to 65. Fully expecting the warning system to activate, it didn't until today. I checked the tire pressures cold and they all read 64. Looks like I found its limit. What doesn't make sense to me is that this truck has sat outside in the winter and the system has never gone before.
Best, Buck
