Upfitter Switches

If there is one thing I regret from purchasing my '08 6.4L, it is the fact that I did not get the factory-installed upfitter switches. My truck had everything I wanted but the switches and I thought I'd manage. Here I am two months later wishing I had them...

So, what should I do, get the dealer to install a set in their rightful spot next to the trailer control, if that's even an option, or should I go with some aftermarket switches instead? Any input would be great. Thanks.

Just do it. You might be able to do them cheaper, but not more cleanly. You could probably with a very small amount of mechanical ability, install them yourself.

I found them on ebay before. The kit came with the wiring harness and everything you need. I don't know if that helps but it is worth checking out so the dealer doesn't get any more of your money.

You can add them. More information on this site.

excerpt from the site:

Adding upfitter switches on 2008 SuperDuty:
If a truck is not equipped from the factory with upfitter switches, they can be added by ordering the wiring (7C3Z-14A303-A), switches (7C3Z-13D730-AA), and if it is not eqipped with the trailer brake controller, the utility box (8C3Z-2513546-BA). It may be necessary to remove the instrument cluster to install the wiring. Referrence bulletin Q-157 at www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas for more information. Broadcast Message 7072.

You can also order an actual kit here! You'll have to scroll down because they sell a kit for an '05 and an '08. Powerstrokeshop.com

I ordered a kit from them for our '05 and it wasn't bad at all to install. Sounds like the '08 might be alittle batter since it installs on the driver side instead of the passenger side. Plus they have complete step by step instructions w/pics you can print off in the link as well. I'm getting ready to do this myself!

That's great news. I guess I need to do a little research and see where I can get the best deal. I consider myself somewhat mechanically inclined, so it should be a no brainer adding a simple wiring harness, especially with the step by step instructions. As far as compatibility between the 05 & 08, will have to check on that as well. Thanks for the input!
