Whistling Noise... Cowling?

In a heavy cross wind at high way speeds I get a bad whistling during the wind gusts somewhere around the cowling. I have heard it coming from either side of the truck depending on the winds.

Any ideas of what it is or how to make it stop?

I have heard that it could be the turn signal lenses on the side mirrors.

Mine does it too...it sounds like it's coming from the bottom corners of the windshield. I pushed on the glass while it was doing it one time thinking maybe the thing wasn't sealed good but it didn't make a difference in the pitch.

Cowling?

We were on the highway with 60mph cross winds a few weeks ago and the down wind front door frame at the top of the door would pull away from the cab just enough to make a lot of wind noise. I could stick my finger in between the upper door frame and cab and increase the noise.

I've been meaning to look into the surgical tubing mod for the door seal that I did on my 7.3L to see if it would work on this.

Hello
My truck has the same noise. Have had the dealer look at it. They have taped the wind shield, taped the Sirrus antenna, and taped off the middle id light on the roof. Still have the noise. It seems to be coming from the area of the rear view mirror. Has anybody had this problem fixed ?

I have the same noise on mine as well. Took it to the dealer for that and an exhaust leak problem yesterday. They couldn't duplicate it, granted there wasn't any wind. I talked to a windshield guy today and he said it is common, and there isnt anything that can be done that he knows of.

Hello
It looks like it might be the second id light in on drivers side. Tech at dealership said he had taped off this light and the noise stopped. He could not get the noise to come back when he removed the tape. Left dealer ship and will listen for noise when it happens I will tape off the id light and listen for noise. It is not the windshield. By the way I am in Titusville Florida. It has been cool here and the noise seems to happen when it is warmer.

Hello
Taped off all id lights one at a time still had noise. Will take it back to dealer here in Titusville. It does not seem to be anything mechanical. Has anybody had the noise and got it fixed ?

Hello
Took truck out and it was making whistling noise. Stopped and taped entire windshield. Noise went away , took it up to 80 MPH no noise. Will call dealer tomorrow. First time we only taped top of windshield see above post. This time I taped top and side of windshield. Used electric tape.

On my F150, I was getting a lot of wind noise coming through the windshield. It wasn't whistling though.

I got a tube of Permatex Silicone Windshield and Glass Sealer and squirt some along the entire perimeter. That took care of it.

Amazon.com: Permatex 81730 Flowable Silicone Windshield and Glass Sealer - 1.5 oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: Permatex 81730 Flowable Silicone Windshield and Glass Sealer - 1.5 oz.: Automotive

My SD used to be quiet, and now it's got more and more windnoise starting since getting cold outside. Gonna have to do the same when it dries up outside one of these days.

It's not regular caulk--it's more liquid-like and it wicks into the cracks so you can't really see anything once it's set.

Hello
Problem has been fixed. It was the windshield. Had it fixed at Ron Norris Ford in Titusville Fl. Done under warranty by auto glass company. They put a bead of black caulking around entire windshield. The caulking actually looks like a round rubber strip. They did a very good job.

Really hey I just noticed this problem the other day driving out to 29 Palms there's some crazy cross winds out there where they huge land fill of windmills are where there always shooting those awesome movie scenes from. Anyway if it's just caulking then awesome I'm going to try and do the same thing. I've got USAA Insurance and they replace front windshield for free once a year if need be no questions asked. I've never done this but I'm thinking worse case secnario I just go to a windshield place and ask then to re caulk my front windshield and my insurance will pick it up.

We shall see!

I had the noise problem, and it took alot of time taping until I found it was the front window seal above the driver side. I went to a local guy and got some black urathane. I ran a bead all the way around the window seal on the outside. You can hardly see it because it blends in with the window seal. I did it 3 months ago and haven't heard any noise since. I am not sure if the seal vibrated some how on the outside because I never noticed any moisture leaking. The urathane fixed my problem.
