Wrench icon appearing

Just had major repairs to my 2008 F250 under 'Certified Pre Owned' warranty. Shortly after picking up the truck (after 2 weeks in shop) I noticed the 'wrench' icon in the instrument cluster. What does that mean??? I also noticed that the instrument cluster went 'dark' periodically. Is there a connection?

When the wrench appeared on my '08 F450 ambulance, it was a bad PCM. Had to be replaced and reflashed.

mine was a bad TCM. @ 600 miles when new.

You need to take it in under warranty again and have them find out the issue.

I thought the wrench icon meant stop driving, and get it in for immediate service.

Kind of like a "check engine" light meant "check soon" but a flashing light meant "stop driving or you'll break something!"

For my 2010 SD, on page #17 of the "2010 Owners Guide", under instrument cluster it shows the wrench icon.

"Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power/Electronic throttle control (RTT):
Displays when the engine has defaulted to a "limp-home" operation or when a transmission problem has been detected and shifting may be restricted. If the light remains on, have the system serviced immediately by your authorized dealer."

Operative word here would be "immediately" I think.
