When I installed an aftermarket unit the instructions said to ground the SSW so I could use the nav controls while in motion.

I am not a lawyer, but doing so is a potential liability in the event that you get into an accident not to mention that it is illegal (in some, maybe all states) for the driver to view motion video while the car is moving. You obviously made up your mind that that is a liability you are willing to accept, and I'm not going to harangue you over that decision--I just want to point out its potential illegality so that the original poster can make a more informed decision.

Who said anything about watching video? My speed sensor is disabled so my passanger can use the GPS and input an address, etc while in motion.

This site is all about "the law"...the Speed Sensor wire is for the navigation that is it... what controls whether you watch movies or not is a double signal of ground... i have a switch for that...

underneath the dash, on the left hand side there is a bundle of wires, i think 10 or so total taped up.

one is specifically labeled vss i believe, but forget the color exactly. I hit this wire for my head unit and it works perfectly.

good luck! if you need a color, i can probably get it tomorrow!
