2WD Low with ESOF

Can we do like the older Superduty's (2000, etc.) and splice into wiring for the solenoid controlling front hub vacuum and put in relay or switch to achieve 2WD Low?

Like this: The Mustang Shop

Also, are any vacuum/wiring diagrams available for this truck yet, such as for the ESOF system?

Thanks,

not really, if i need low range, i probably want 4wd too.
The only time i use 2wd low is in my Early Bronco, and that is using only the front axle, for turning purposes.

Aggie, I go through lots of sand and water in Fl. and mostly use 4 high. I see you're in Texas, would you use it on wet roads or off road? Snow?

Sorry no help to you but just curious about the application.

Mainly for manuevering heavy trailer loads in and out of tight spots on soft ground. I realize I can use 4wd off the road, but the truck always has plenty of rear wheel traction with a heavy pin weight, the trailer tires just like to sink down and it's hard for the truck to move the trailer. With 2WD low I can turn sharper and better without the binding of the front axle engaged, while having that extra low gearing to move the load.

Same thing applies on pavement, except that we don't have any concrete around here that I have to manuever trailers on that is very steep and would cause a large load on the truck.

Aggie, I'm with you.... I would like to make this mod to my truck as well. I had the manual 4WD in my last truck and used 4W Lo all the time to back my heavy 5h wheel up and into my driveway. Having the ability to move heavy loads, especially when you have to do a lot of manuevering of the truck comes in really handy at times.

Come on all you modification pioneers, jump in there and find a solution for the rest of us

In my '04, I just unplugged the vacuum soleniod for the hubs. Then used truck as manual 4x4. I would lock the hubs when I needed 4x4, leave unlocked (Auto) rest of time. Throw it into 4lo when backing toyhauler uphill. When doing so, with hubs on Auto, i had 2lo. Haven't looked to see if same setup on the '08 yet.

I think it is the same setup at the hubs. I didn't think about doing that, and it should work. I think I'll do it for now.

Not sure how that effects the transfer case, is it electronically shifted or vacuum? If vacuum shifted maybe it would be a good idea to plug those hub lines until we know exactly how the vacuum system is setup?

I guess I really just need to find time to crawl under the truck and figure this all out. Lord know you can't look from on top of the engine and expect to find anything...

I may do what you're talking about for the time being until I can find a proper wiring/vacuum diagram. Then I can do it all from the flick of upfitter switch #4. That way I would still have 4wd with the hubs in auto. Lazy, I know, but the switch would just be neat!

I'm pretty sure that's basically the same thing as I linked to in my first post. I would have to imagine the 08 is different. Somebody is just selling a kit for way too much money.
