Alarm System/Remote Door Unlock on 2008 Super Duty

I ordered a new 2008 F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab XLT. I want to have 1 remote that will work the door locks and also the alarm. This truck is an XLT so it will have power door locks from the factory.

At first I thought I would get the get the Ford Accessory Vehicle Security System which it says requires factory keyless entry. So I would order the truck with the Advanced Security Group, which includes the remote keyless entry. I was told that if I did this I would end up with 2 remotes. Is this correct? I want only 1 remote to do the door locks and alarm, and don't really want any of the other features of the Advanced Security Group, so I did not order the Advanced Security Group.

I am not looking for a security system with a lot of features, just door locks and alarm on 1 remote, and basic alarm features like unauthorized entry and starter disable. I will be installing it myself and don't mind cutting into the wiring system if I know where to put it. What alarm system would you recommend?

1999 F250SD V10 5sp 2WD 3.73 crew cab XLT, I bought it new in March 1998. Sold after almost 10 years with 140,000 mi, was an excellent truck.

Re: Alarm System/Remote Door Unlock on 2008 Super Duty

I've got the Viper 791XV and love it. Cost me $180 online and I installed it with the help of a friend of mine in about 4 hours. It has all the bells and whistles. Remote start, turbo timer, 2 way pager, shock sensor (2 stage), and flashing LED for the dash.

Been using it for over a year now and never had a problem with it. It's stopped at least one break-in that I know of. Somebody tried to punch my door lock and when they hit it the alarm must have scared them off because they didn't get in.

The Ford VSS works with the RKE (remote keyless entry) remote. It does not require an additional remote. You want to order the one that "requires RKE".

However, I have one of the VSS units and don't think it was the best alarm. There are others that will integrate with the RKE that have more features and operate more reliably.

Re: Alarm System/Remote Door Unlock on 2008 Super Duty

if you order your truck with the advanced security group - then you will get keys that have a chip in them, like the PATS system in gm vehicles. with this system, adding an aftermarket alarm is a little more difficult, and iirc requires an extra key to be mounted underneath the dash with the alarm module(s). the remote start is also a little different in that it doesnt need a tach trigger wire - with the electronic throttle, there is a different way to wire it up that im not sure how to explain. talk to your local installer, and they whould be able to help you out more.
