Anyone have the tailgate step with flat top capper???

Plan to order a new '08 and really like the tailgate step, but don't know if I'll be able to use it once I put on a cap. I'll be getting the flat top cap so not a lot of room to stand up on the tailgate with the cap top open.

Any experience with this?? Pictures of the new '08 with a flat top cap would be great too!!

What would be the point in the tailgate step if you never really actually have to get into the back of your truck?

I have a capper on mine and I have the step. I'm not sure what you mean by a flat top but mine is what I would consider a truck capper. Look into what you want carefully. With the step not all caps will fit. The piece on top of the tail gate is bowed out for the step. I have a Leer. At the time I got mine is was supposed to be the only one they made that fit the 08's.

ffxhub I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings or anything if I did, I'm just saying...why get a nearly 400 dollar option that you will probably never use?

No, I dont own the 08 yet, but I have been looking at this option too. I will put a topper on and will get the step, why... because my wife is short and Ill be darned if I have to boost her into the bed for her to get stuff out. I find the idea alone, a great value, in the bed step for accessing item thats have slid to the front and are not easily accesible when just opening the tailgate...call me crazy.

Now back to the original posters request, lets see those pics!

I have had more people comment on the tailgate step. It is one of the best features possible if you need to get in and out of the bed of your truck. If you are even considering it, you will use it and you will love it.

My 2 centavos...

Yah but he isn't getting a topper he's getting a fiberglass tonneau cover it sounds more like to me. So why would he need to climb up onto the tailgate so he can roll under the fiberglass tonneau cover into his bed? Call me crazy but seems kind of silly. Now if you had a regular topper like one of the tall ones or a tonneau cover that rolls up or retracts it'd make more sense to have the tailgate step.

With or without the step the tail gates are shaped different on the 08's. They are wider at the top and curved to accommodate the steps. As of last November Leer was the only one making a canopy that fit - and even then it does not overlap the rear of the tailgate - it leaves a shelf that's a nice collector for dirt and ice!

I have a SnugTop that fits the tailgate w/step and it covers the top of the tailgate really nice.

No worries Matt you didn't hurt my feelings....

Thanks for all the help. I guess I didn't explain too well. Not talking about a tonneau cover. I usually see two different types of camper tops/shells.

There are the higher top backs like this one....

And then the ones that are flat from front to back, like this one.....

With the first top I know that most of the time you can stand up on the tailgate and the tailgate step would be perfect. But with the second style top I don't think you would be able to stand up on the tailgate, meaning the step might not be usable.

Stan, good point on a different top required for the step, might have to look into that.

OH you want a topper like that. I thought you meant the tonneau cover hard type. I'd say get the step if thats the type of topper you want.
