Bilstein Shocks

I ordered a set of Bilsteins for my 08 F450 4X and the rear shocks they sent are shorter than my originals by 3". I contacted Bilstein Tech Support and they verified I have the correct shock for my application. The stock shock measures 27.5" center of eye to center of eye fully extended and the Bilsteins measure 24.5", has anybody else experienced this problem?
I'm thinking Ford put on the wrong shock since I am the orginial owner and the truck has not been lifted.

PS. I checked the Monroe web site and they call for a 24.5" length as well.

The shock is installed, it has 3 inches of compression but it is compressed only 1.5 inches to install. Will this limit the rear axel articulation?

??? never seen a Bilstein for these trucks with just 4.5" travel..so something wrong or I don't understand your post. Min compression travel I would say is 3" but I would rather not see that little as towing will reduce it to a dangerous level which if you hit a big bump will damage the shock unless the bump stop keeps this from happening. I feel all shocks should be sized for mid travel install at ride height IMO.

The main problem I see is they are 3" shorter when fully extended than the stock shock which will limit rear axel articulation, they seem to be the same when fully compressed. The Bilstein Tech support insists they are the correct shock for my application so I installed them. I just towed 300 miles with no problems so will see how the rest of the trip goes. I will report back after I get back home, going boondocking for a few days.

Send a message via AIM to PSD POWER007
I've been running Bisteins on my 08 F450 for about 20k miles. No problems here. I didn't measure mine FWIW.

Just returned from 700 miles of towing and the Bilsteins work fantastic without any problems. They have plenty of compression distance even after the truck hits the bump stops. The improvement in handling is notable better than the factory shocks.
