Fords new back-up camera

Was at my local Ford dealer yesterday and saw a brand new F-250 decked out with the navi. This particular truck had the new back-up camera installed. The monitor is built into the rear view mirror, and the camera is molded into the tail gate handle. When you put the truck in reverse, the monitor pops on with two guidance tracks. Comes in handy for hitching up a trailer.

Does anyone know how to get this upgrade. The boys at the dealer hadn't a clue, but said the parts were in excess of 1100.00

It's something around the $400 mark as an option. That seems like a pretty good mark up at the counter.
I understand that an 08 non-cruise optioned truck doesn't have the ability to have it (cruise control) added later. I wonder how many other factory options besides cruise control cannot be installed after a purchase and are restricted to factory install only?

Soemething to consider before flopping that kida dough on the counter.

Well I can tell you that I won't be paying 1100.00 for that set-up. And your correct. It's like a 400 to 450 option. Where they get off charging 315 for the mirror and 800 for the camera is beyond me.

Duhhhh, do you think there might be some labor involved in changing out the mirror & tailgate handle? Oh yea, and what about wiring?

Duhhh of course there will be labor cost! I'm talking about just the price of the equipment. But thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I've seen the wireless back up camera at BJ's for $89.00. It attaches to the license plate frame and is wired into the back up lights to energize the camera when in reverse. The monitor is small and has a stand to put on dash and can be plugged int a power port.

I wonder if you could wire into the upfitter switch instead of the back up lights? It would be nice if you could look behind you when not in reverse with a flip of the switch, and you would not have to splice into the light wire.

Companies like to stay in business by selling things more than it cost them to develop and produce. That would be my guess.
