They never said anything about an outside antenna needed for the nav unit to work. That's a pain in the arse to install. The Ford unit is better all around than the after-market Pioneer, etc. Wifer has a Pioneer and it sucks.

Not quite plug-and-play. You still need to route the external GPS antenna.

For $700, I'd say save your money and spend a little extra ($300 or so) at Crutchfield. Go to their wizard that will show you everything that will fit in your truck. There's two or three double-DIN navigation units by JVC and Kenwood (might have the manufacturers wrong) that have detachable screens.

Build quality will be SIGNIFICANTLY higher than this no-name-knock-off. As for usability... it's hit-or-miss... most people I know aren't satisfied with their nav units (but I think what they're encountering are truly ID-10-T errors).

The GPS antenna is internal in the 2008 super duty and most other vehicles, they are located under the dash behind the nav unit and very easy to install. The one outside on top of the cab is for Sirius/XM radio and from what I've read the unit your looking at does not have Sirius radio so no external antenna would be needed. (Only if you have Sat radio would you need external antenna)

The unit your looking at was never an option for the 2008 super duty so I have a hard time believing it's factory and if you ask me looks cheep.

FYI, the 2009 super duty has a combo external antenna which works with both GPS and Sirius radio.

FORD GPS NAVIGATION RADIO, ANTENNA, 7P DVD, AM/FM ADPTR:eBay Motors (item 260432357308 end time Jun-27-09 06:37:10 PDT)

and if you look around can find them a lot cheaper.

Keep in mind the 2008 will not have Sync/bluetooth. The 2009 comes with Sync from factory but will not work in your truck at this time (maybe later)

Did you ever call these people? I called them 3 times and could only leave a message. Left 3 messages and also emailed and never received a response. Been a week now. I don't think I want to buy anything from them

I bought my '08 F350 Lariet with the basic radio with the sole purpose of upgrading to the Kenwood DNX7100. Kenwood - DNX7100 I selected the DNX because of wanting a backup camera and a second camera on my slide-in camper. Also I wanted the built-in Bluetooth for the Cell phone. Also, the Navigation portion is Garmin and is excellent.

The GPS antenna is mounted under the dash and is very sensitive. It easily tracks when parked in our garage whereas my '06 Jeep Commander with the Chrysler system can't track in the garage.

I have two different NAV systems; the factory unit in my 08 F450 and the Pioneer AVIC unit in my 2003 Siverado 2500HD D/A. Both units have their pro's and con's....the Ford NAV system is actually manufactured by Pioneer and is quite usable however the AVIC has a built in hard drive for music storage. I am having difficulty hacking the Ford NAV unit at current time....hacking a NAV unit allows all functions to be available regardless of whether the vehicle is stationary or moving. Not sure of the maps on the Ford unit however the algorithm(s) used seems to be better than the AVIC as the routing is right on each time I have used it. It really boils down to personal taste/preference on these systems.

I have the AVIC. It totally sucks, complete piece of crap. Besides the 20 minute boot up time, random crashing, ever moving tiny clock, loss of gps signal, unique iPhone integration capabilities, I love the fact that it tells you 28 times within a half mile to make a turn. Probably good because I can't listen to music anyway because the iPhone crashed it.

That's the second time I've heard someone complain about the F-series AVIC. I have nothing but good things to say about the Z-series I installed.

I am glad yours is working out, I hate it when people spend good money for crappy products. Mine is so bad, I will never buy another pioneer product unless forced to. I sent them an email on it and they didn't even bother to respond. Many of the chains out here, even the big ones like Ultimate Electronics have stopped carrying the entire Pioneer Nav line because of all the problems they have had. Now they want to charge to get an update for new firmware. Don't see that happening. I bought it even with my installer telling me not to get it, nobody is happy with the boot up time especially. I have nobody to blame but myself. Good news is I can chuck the factory deck because this thing goes with the truck when I sell it!! Glad to hear someone is at least happy.
