I just got an OEM Sirius satellite receiver. From what I've read, the factory install position is underneath the steering column on the left side on the 2008, but I do not see a bracket to mount it too.
I believe it is installed on the back wall left of the emergency brake pedal, this is the module that the satellite antenna plugs into. After that I’m assuming that you will have to bring it to the dealer to get it programed. There was a post with pictures on this forum somewhere.
Don't need to bring it to the dealer, it works just fine, it's just that there is no mounting bracket to bolt it to. I did find the pre-existing plug to plug it into the radio. All I needed was a call to Sirius to activate the radio and I've got integrated satellite radio. I'll probably go to the dealer tomorrow to talk to the parts guy and see if there is a bracket that I need to get. Right now, it's just zip-tied into place.
Next thing to do is get under the headliner and fish the wire out with the wire for the roof marker light to put the antenna outside instead on just sitting on the dash.
Sorry about the bad info! I haven’t had a chance to look and verify for you what the bracket looks like. The little darlings (My Kids) are home for Christmas and I won’t see my truck till the fuel tank needs to be refilled (LOL). I was going to change out my defective SDARS module on my own truck, but was told by my Dealer that the Communication Network Module has to be reprogrammed. But you might have solved my problem if I can’t get my Sat Radio option working properly under warranty. Thank You. Reasoning and rant below!!
I’m not a fan of the 2008 Sat Radio, I was going to install a docking station for a portable satellite radio that has more features and can be moved around with only paying for one subscription, I’ve seen other truck with this done with no cutting holes or wires showing and using the OEM antenna and Aux input on the Radio.
The only reason I haven’t, is that my truck’s Sat radio worked for 16 months and hasn’t worked properly for over a year and Dealer has given up on me. I’ve posted my problem on this forum and no one seems to have the same one. I can’t even stop my Sirius subscription till I get it fixed, because what do I tell the buyer, when I sale the truck? And can’t install an after market radio, for fear that they will tell me it caused the damage to the OEM Ford radio.
The sad thing is that when the temperature is below 50 degrees inside the cab the radio works fine and my call to Ford Canada Customer Service only caused the Dealer’s Service Manager to get pissed and change the radio unit 6 months ago that didn’t solve the problem and sent Ford and me a copy of the work order that said that it was corrected and working properly and the Dealer told me on the phone that they were waiting for another module (SDARS) to be shipped and won’t return my calls. I shouldn’t of course mentioned to the Dealer why would you send out a closed work order that the problem was corrected and get paid by Ford for work that wasn’t done?
Exactly how did you get your Nav unit to recognize it now had a satellite radio installed? Did it "just work" after a reboot, had to do an upgrade on the software or do you have it wired into the "Aux" input?
Finally got the mounting bracket from Ford, took a week-and-a-half to come from Detroit. Put it in over the weekend, pretty simple to install once I figured out how it went in. Hardest part was getting the upper attachment secured. Had to use a flexible screw driver to get up there.
For those interested the mount is Ford part number 7C3Z18888A. The dealer sold it to me for $39.95 plus tax.
Was wondering if the OEM satalite receiver in my 08 would work with an aftermarket Kewood Nav unit (DNX 9960) which has xm/Sirius capability. I elected not to purchase the Kemwood Sirius reciever thinking that I could go without. Since the OEM Sirius receiver is under the dash driver's side and is connected to the sat anntena on the roof, I'm thinking there simply could be a cable to purchase to connect to the Kenwood Nav deck. Thoughts?
The owner's manual for this unit on the kenwood site says;
The unit supports Satellite Radio tuners which are released by SIRIUS and XM. Optional accessories below are necessary for connection.
SIRIUS tuner: Conversion cable CA-SR20V
XM tuner: XM interface Box KCA-XM100V
But before you rush out and buy the cable, I'd contact Kenwood customer service, they should know for sure.
it goes under the sterring wheel slighty to the left and it sits on edge behind the big trim panel.
go to Helm Inc and take a month subscription to the service manula and you will have everything you need.
I took mine out when I upgraded to 2010 NAV
