locking gas cap - Diesel Forum

I am wondering if anyone has heard of a locking gas cap for the 08's yet? I have looked online and have been to the ford dealer but it is not available as far as I can tell. A thought was to possibly change the filler neck on the 08 to the 07 or before so the old locking cap would work. With fuel prices as they are a locking cap seems to make very good sense. Does anyone know where to look for a 03-07 fuel filler neck to replace the 08 neck, besides the stealer? Maybe a used parts or junk yard online? I am open to any suggestions. Thanks

I'm using a 2007 f-250 stant locking gas cap on my 08 with no problem for 13k miles.

Is it even POSSIBLE to siphon the fuel out of our PSD's? I thought that newer vehicles have a check-valve that prevent siphoning?

Never mind what's going out, I would be more worried about what's going in... like pulling up to a full service station and the attendant starts filling up with gas without asking!

The new trick is they don't siphon they punch a hole in the bottom of the tank and drain it into a pan or a bucket.

In that case my Transferflow tank would make it a little harder for them

There's only one or two states in the United States that won't let people fill up their own vehicles. I don't know what it's like outside of the States,though.

P.S.--They better have a large bucket because I roll with 38 gallons. :-)

Let's see, that would put 5 or 10 gallons into the thief's vehicle and 28 or 33 gallons on the ground. If they are going to steal your fuel they don't care what shape they leave your truck in. Anything from a bent up locking billet fuel door to a mess that YOU have to clean up on the ground along with having to repair or replace your fuel tank. They got what they wanted.
It's like a story I read 11 years ago. The thief wanted a dodge diesel pickup so instead of stealing one and driving it he stole one off a dealers lot took it out into the boonies and tore out the drive train. Then he put it into his own truck. The only way that they caught him was after he sold his truck and the new owner took it in for service. The dealer checked the engine serial number, traced it back to the stolen truck, and then called the cops.

Why would you want a gas cap on a diesel engine?

They can't syphon thru the filler but will cut the hose that goes between the filler and the tank which will cost you more to fix then the diesel they steel. It happen to a guy at work with a gas truck. $75 for gas and $280 to get the tank droped and hose change.
