New Alarm, Power steps, and Kenwood DNX Nav stereo

So i've had this all on the truck now for about 2 months and feel that i can comment on it now.

The Best top Steps are a no brainer. They work as advertised and look great, which to me means i cant see them at all when doors are closed.

The Viper 5901 Alarm with remote start works really well too. The only problem i've had with this is that if you arm the alarm right after closing the door it sends a fault to the remote saying there is an open door. The cause is the dome light, it stays on for 21 seconds when i close the door and i have no idea how to turn off the auto dimmer feature. If someone can help let me know.

Flipback tonneau cover, this thing is awesome, super easy to install and is water tight. Love it.

And last but not least, i installed a Kenwood DNX 7140. This stereo is awesome. Nav is super easy to use, the phone function works amazing and the best part is it connects to my IPhone via bluetooth for streaming audio. But i would have to say what impressed me the most was the sound quality. I have an 08 King Ranch with the audiophile stereo and this thing with the kenwood sounds amazing. I have total control over mids, highs, and the sub. This thing sounds better with the audiophile speakers and sub than the JL system i installed in my F150.

If you have any questions let me know. I had everything done in the Phoenix area and highly recommend both shops. Shoot me an email if you want there info.

Question for you about the power steps. Do they retract behind the pinchweld, or in front? I have RECON Big Rig running lamps along the side and would hate to have those covered up by the steps. Can you take a picture of the underside of your truck with the steps tucked in (doors closed) and with the doors open?

There is a program setting on the 5901 that will bypass the domelight supervision. Have your installer check this or call DEI installer support line. I have a 5901 on my 08 and it's great.

IMHO the newest Kenwood DNX series are the best Nav head units out there. Fantastic. I've installed 3 this year and folks love them dearly. Kenwood did the smart thing and didn't try to reinvent the wheel. They stuck to the audio design while letting Garmin do the Nav and Parrot do the Bluetooth, the two undisputed chapions in their respective technologies. The result is a very intuitive product that does what it's supposed to do and sounds great!

One of the projects was a DNX-6140 in a Super Duty with a JBL stealthbox under the center seat. I kind of like a real volume knob and that and the comensurate screen size is the only real difference between the 6140 and 7140. To step up to the 9140 only makes sense if the vehicle has surround-sound speakers including center channel.

Did you get this figured out? I had my 5900 swapped (long story) for a 5901 and it is doing the same thing. Thanks in advance, Jason

No solution yet, its annoying but so far ive just been dealing with it. One thing i did find out is although it throws the error, it will reset the door after the fault (the light) has gone out. So i'm still getting the protection i just get an error every time i arm it.

Excerpt from Page 47 of the Install Guide:

2-4 Door trigger error chirp On (1): Door trigger error chirp Off (2). This feature controls the error chirp that is generated if the system is locked with the door trigger active. This is useful in vehicles with a long dome light delay after the door is closed. If the system is locked before the dome light turns Off, the system generates the door trigger error chirp. If this error chirp notification is not desired, use this feature to disable the door open error chirp notification. If the error chirp notification is turned Off, no bypass chirp is generated, even if a door is accidentally left open.

Hi, I noticed you mentioned your BakFlip is water tight. I just got mine about 2 weeks ago, but I'm finding that it lets in a fair of water. Is your's truly water tight?

Ya know, i have not sprayed a hose directly on it trying to get water in but during a car wash or a rain shower it stays dry.
