Thumbs up Transferflow Installed today!

Installed 47 gallon Transferflow midship fuel tank today and it was alot easier than I expected. Took about 4-5 hours and took regular tools that you would have at home. The instructions were easy to follow and had a good diagram to follow. The weight of the tank makes it definitely a 2 person job just for an extra hand. Its quite a bit heavier than the stock tank. I sure enjoyed the extra fuel I was able to put in too. I am very happy with my purchase and it was alot cheaper doing it myself. The shop i talked to wanted almost 900 to install it and it just wasnt worth it.

Is the new tank any longer than the old one? From the pictures they look similiar. I have mounted an air compressor in front of the tank and would not want to move it.

I assume, the factory fuel guage and DTE on the trip do not register until about 10 gallons have been used from the new tank? Is this correct?

Do you still have the slow filling issue? On my truck (with the factory tank), I can fill to the filler neck, but the last five gallons must be "nursed" in.

Yeah it is longer quite a bit even though the pic doesnt do it justice. There is a metal bracket that looks like it protects the stock fuel tank that I had to remove so it would fit. If your tank is there your might have an issue. I havent driven alot yet so it still on fuel i will let you know though. The DTE i was told would no longer work and that there is no way to reprogram it to the new larger tank. No slow filling issue with the TF i stand on it till its full. No burping at all. This is the reason I picked this tank heard that some of the other tanks were having problems.

Didn't realize those were aluminum. No wonder you say it's a 2 person job, 165lbs. An extra person would definitely help. Looks good.

What was the shipping cost on that thing, if you don't mind me asking?

Hopefully in the not to distant future, one of these tuners will finally decide to take a look at changing the fuel tank size, tire pressure size, etc..

I have a 60 gal tank in my 450, in my 350 before that. The DTE works just fine for me, it just never shows much lower til the main tank starts to empty. It is gravity feed--I can use fuel faster than it will fill, especially when towing. Then it catches up overnight. Usually the DTE will register what the computed mpg was on the previous fill and calculate a new DTE based on 38 gallons fuel. Kinda neat--stop for the night, get up next morning, tank is full again and DTE back to about 450 miles. With my 350, I was able to go around 1100-1300 miles before needing fuel; not near as far with the 450. It looks to me like anyone with a 450 and towing a heavy load is gonna need an aux tank or go batty stopping for fuel.

Just a little update on my Transferflow tank. I filled it up the first time at a 1/4 tank since im still feeling out how the gauge reads comared to whats in there and it took right at 36 gallons. I had driven 420 miles so that put me at about 11.7 mpg around town miles. The second fill up was 36 gallons at 478 miles bumping me up to about 13.2 around town miles. So all in all things are going well and am still very happy with this tank. I am hoping to get in a little highway driving this week and looking to get 550 out of one tank. Also i was told that my dte would be off but as for as I can tell it is still pretty close (not that I am gonna trust it).

Question 59 gallon Transfer Flow tank

I had a 59 gallon Transfer Flow installed in my 2002 F350. Was not able to get my overhead trip computer reprogrammed to reflect the new tank size and DTE. For some reason, it now reads 260 miles DTE with a full 59 gallon load. My mechanic has talked with Transfer Flow and the local Ford dealership several times but to no avail.

Suggestions?

Send a message via ICQ to OlGrey
My only concern is the 50 miles and O miles to empty chime all the time from the DTE. I know the fuel guage will still be accurate, but is there any progrmable update to fix that if a larger tank is added?

I havent ran my truck empty yet(thank god) but my dte is pretty close to where it should be. I always fill up a 1/4 tank or a little under and it always about 36-38 gallons. So not including the 5 gallon reserve that leave with about 5-6 gallons and at 12 mpg thats within 20 miles of what my dte is reading(usually is reading around 70 miles at fill up).
