Upgrade headlights

I am getting ready for these dark winter nights and would like to upgrade my headlights on my '08 F250 SD. See a lot about halo, projector and the works but what is the best way to go if you want legal, bright headlights?
Can this be replaced just with a new bulb or do you have to do a new setup all together?
Thanks for the help!

Recon headlights are pretty sick if you want to dish out 500 bucks. much nicer than the ebay ones I would say.

Why would you want the light to be that bright at that angle for oncoming cars? HID's without a reflector change is reckless and stupid . . . and illegal, not DOT approved.

The silverstar's are a little more whiteish and are a def improvment over stock. But even those dont hold a chance aganist HID's. My car has HID's and its a night and day difference when I go from my car to my truck, almost cant see. lol. There's a couple of places that sell nice HID kits for cheap, $200-$300, and they work great. Spend the extra money, it's well worth it.
