Just got the viper 5704 remote start/security system installed on my 2008 6.4L f350 and have a few questions that I did numerous searches for but couldn't find anything.
1: How do I get the heater or a/c to work when I remote start it?? I've tried leaving it on when I turn the truck off in every possible way (auto climate control, manual fan on high, deforst floor heater, etc.) but no matter what nothing blows out when I remote start it. The light's on the dash show it's 'on' but not until I put the key in does it actually work. Frustrating because main reason I got it was to deforst frozen windshield during winter, but doesn't appear it will work...?!
2: Do I need to worry or bother about turbo timer? Read lots of people talking about it but don't know much about it.
3: The shop that installed it set runtime at 12 mins, can I adjust or set longer time without having to take it back to the shop that installed?
4: I don't have any mods to the truck (2008 6.4L f350), will allowing it to idle 10-15mins. a day cause any damage, or the 'making oil issue' i've read about?
5: I've read where the say the radio won't work until you physically put the key in, but my radio comes on when i remote start it, is this normal?
Truck is a Lariat w/ climate control, if that even makes a difference (for heat/ac issue). Called another shop and they thought it had to do with the secondary ignition wire, or possibly accessory wire, but of course they want me to bring it in and charge me just to have a look at it. I know there has to be a way to get it to work, otherwise it's defeats entire purpose I bought it for, lol...just my luck.
I don't have a lariat but my heater comes on when I start my vehicle so I could be wring in saying this but it seems as though something is not hooked up properly because I would expect the fan to turn on as well like you to help defrost the windows.
The turbo timer would be I you are driving it hard or towing heavy but I just leave the truck running for a couple minutes with my command start and then I shut it off with my command start later.
You should be able to set the runtime but I can't help you with that as I don't have that type I starter.
Idling the truck with the dpf installed will eventually cause issues if you continuously interrupt regens but if you allow regens to finish I can't see any problems with 15 minutes a day. That is what I was doing, maybe even a little more idle time when I had my dpf installed and I never had any issues until I started doing alot of city driving.
My radio also turns on with my starter so I would also say the same issue in that maybe something is not hooked up correctly. Once again I could be wrong with that as well.
Hopefully this helps a little!

Thanks for the advice. So I assume your a/c is also working when you remote start it, is it on exactly how you left it when you last shut the truck off? Do you have climate control in your truck?

Thanks for any and all info.
1. Look under the steering column and find the ignition harness. The OEM wire for ignition is white/orange. The pink wire from the 5704 should be tapped into that one. Look for the OEM accessory wire, which should is brown/yellow or yellow/orange - the orange wire from the 5704 should be tapped or connected to either of those wires. There is a second accessory wire that is purple/green, its possible that they used that wire instead of the first accessory wire. The 1st accessory wire is what is used to power the climate controls. The radio coming on shouldn't matter, but that tells me that maybe they used the wrong wire. The purpose of a remote start is to warm or cool the cab (along with the motor) before getting in. If that purpose is not fulfilled, you've wasted money.
2. Don't worry about the turbo timer. There is a mode called idle down that's handy though. Park the truck, foot off of brake, press remote start button. The alarm overrides the ignition - you'll hear 2 clicks, parking lights come one. Turn key off, remove key from ignition, get out, shut door. At this point the truck is running, doors are shut. Press the lock button and the alarm is armed. The 12 minute remote start cycle is started. You can shut it off with the remote, let it time out, or go do your business and return to the truck, at which point you'll unlock, key in, key on, then truck is back to normal operation. If the brake is pressed it will shut the truck off if it's running without a key turned on.
3. Runtime can be set at 12, 24, or 60 minutes. 12 is sufficient and I wouldn't change it. The runtime can be extended through the remote by pressing the aux button once, then the remote start button once. Runtime will be reset to 12 minutes.
4.
5. The radio doesn't matter, some vehicles do it, some dont'. It all depends on what wire was used in the #1 question.
Hope this helps. I'm a dealer/installer for Clifford in the Western KY area. Let me know if you have any questions.

No I don't have climate control so maybe that has something to do with it. One of the guys I work with though has climate control and his heat and a/c stay on whatever the last setting was that he had it on though. I can't remember the name of his command start but mine is an astrostart.

jonyb thanks for the helpful diagram. So here is what it looks like:
I have a brown/yellow wire AND yellow/orange, it appears they tried the yellow/orange (see splice in photo) but they have the Orange wire from the 5704 to the brown/yellow wire. The solid pink from the 5704 is wired the the white/orange. The purple/green is wired to pink/white on the 5704. Any tips???? I was hoping it was exactly what you were thinking but appears it's slightly different... Also notice the small purple/white wire that is just clipped, is this normal??
Looks like it's right, but strange that it doesn't work right. Remote start the truck, then get a meter and check the brown/yellow wire and the purple/green wire. Dont check the remote start wires that are tied in, or if you do, check then in addition to the OEM wires. You need to see if those wires are powered during remote start.
The violet/white wire is probably the tachometer signal input from the 5704. The Viper has what's called "Virtual Tach", and the installer may have attempted to connect the tach wire but said screw it and left it there. Virtual tach is programmed by monitoring voltage in the truck for 30 seconds after the initial install is done. It works okay at best. If it's easy to hardwire the tach, I normally do that instead of relying on the virtual tach.
Did you get the white install manual with the alarm? You may check in there under the remote start feature programming guide to see if there's an option to have the accessory powered during remote start. I can't exactly remember right now and don't have a manual in front of me. I'm installing one of these in a 2013 Honda Pilot tomorrow morning, so I can look then.
I only have the owner's guide which doesn't talk about any details.
When I remote start, the entire dash (including climate control) turns on and lights up just how I left it, just doesn't blow any air our any of the selected vents....by visual you would think it's on and working but no air blowing. As soon as I put the key in ignition and turn to run position it blows air like normal.
What does the pink/white wire from the 5704 do that's wired to the green/purple?
Another shop I called and asked about issue said sounds like secondary ignition wire wasn't hooked up, or they got the accessory wire incorrect, but it looks like wiring is correct from what you said.
Another guy mentioned it doesn't always work in every vehicle depending on 'resistors', sounds a little vague to me, but I'm not to familiar with electrical.
If the climate control lights up, then it sounds to me like the remote start is doing it's job.
There is no second ignition wire for that truck, just 1 ignition, and 2 accessory's.
Pink/White is designated ignition2, it supplies power through the whole remote start sequence. It wouldn't generally be used when there is only 1 ignition wire in teh truck, but having it on the second accessory isn't wrong.
I'm starting to worry that maybe it just won't work, but I can't imagine my truck is the only one out there that the remote start doesn't turn the fans on, seems like it would be heavily talked about being how important this feature is if it was consistent across the board.
I also have an aftermarket navigation (pioneer avic z3) could the pose any interference to the viper?
shop that did the install said they could fix issue and to just bring it back in, didn't ask details but will post when I bring it in this weekend. Relieved that it can be fixed, or so they say, lol.
can you hook up one of the aux to the heated seat button?
has anyone used the 'defogger' feature? I assume it's just in case you forgot to leave your heater/defroster on and it's below 55deg it turns on automatically?
is there a way to use door keypad to unlock vehicle when alarm is armed. If i arm (lock) the truck and use keypad to unlock, alarm goes off but it does open door. I can lock door from inside to avoid alarm going off but then the vehicle is actually armed. i can do the 'full silent alarm' too but maybe there's a better solution?
when truck is armed, if i drop tailgate and shut it, it sets alarm off. Is there a way i can adjust sensitivity or dealer has to? Does that seem too sensitive to you guys?
My last alarm started acting up after a few yrs and I ended up having the whole system removed..one day you will go to start your truck and nothing will happen ( in my case ) I had to carry the factory remote and the viper towards the end...good luck, I hope it works out.
I'll take the risk of just having the factory chipped key...If the thief wants it bad enough they will get it..I know of two people who's trucks were towed away in the night and another guy who's truck was stolen..it had a lojack type of system and when the cops found the truck 45 min later it was stripped.
