I put a set on my '80. Got them from a "Big Rig" wrecking outfit. Gave me everything I needed except airlines for $35.

I got my kit from Air Horns Of Texas

They have various horn types, train, big rig, emergency, etc. I don't think they're fancy grover or hadley horns, but I will say my "emergency" horns sound authentic.

I purchased their 1218 kit and mounted it on the frame rail on the passenger side. I mounted two "emergency" horns, one on each side. They work great! The 1218 tank is small, but I get three or four good blasts before I hear the pump kick on.

Seems to me that both of those places are overpriced for their horns... I got my setup through www.hornblasters.com and am very happy with it

Yes I got my whole setup from hornblasters.com. I also bought a 2 pole relay and put the coil of relay on upfitter sw. no. 4. Switch off and regular factory horn blows from steering wheel, With switch no. 4 on, relay routes 12v. to solenoid rather than factory horn... Main rule- don't use around old people and babies, oh, and railroad crossings!!!

AK250 - I'm looking at a similar setup and your pics are very helpful. However, I can't figure out how you've secured your tank to the frame rail. I can see one bolt in the pic but that's it. Did you drill your frame rail to match the tank footprint, use existing holes, or a combination of the two?

A few more pics from different angles would be extremely helpful if you've got 'em. Thanks!

HORNBLASTERS

That's where I got my "conductors special". I am installing a set on an '03 Duramax. I built a "box" for the mount and if you look at the link in my sig, the whole install is there. Mine is a 5 gal tank. I get 11 seconds of FULL volume

Chuckster, your setup looks great but I'm trying to figure out a way I can mount it using "off the shelf" type material with no welding / powdercoating, etc. Basically something I can do myself with items I can buy at the local hardware store and just cut, drill some holes, and bolt it together. Plus, from what I've measured I don't think there's enough room under there to point that 19" horn straight down.

Thumbs up Thanks

The Duramax install I am working on is using alot of "of the shelf" stuff. We bought 4- 48" 1/4x2 steel pieces for the horns to bolt on. just have to bend them and drill. The assembly will bolt to the frame, drilling where needed with small diameter screws (not much load). the tank, and compressor are on a Shelf that is two 12X16 sheets with two brackets on the frame ( we got lucky and used 3 holes already there) and another bracket that is bolted to the tranny crossmember. For strength, I did weld the tranny bracket to make it _| (like that) The solenoid is bolted to the frame where one of the straps are for the horns.

Thanks for the advice - I'd like to see some pics of the Duramax install when you're done! (Are we allowed to even type "Duramax" here?!?)

Rufnek100 I just got a power drill with a 90 angle and drilled four holes through the frame for the tank to mount to. Closer the tank is from the horn and shorter your airlines are the quicker the response you'll have when you lay on the horn. Hope the advice helps, good luck
