The first ones should begin to trickle in around the first of August, and by the first of September there should be a few on each dealer's lot.

Maybe you have not noticed that the auto industry in general, and their truck business in particular, has experienced an enormous slow-down in sales. So with such little demand for new trucks, why would they be in a hurry to introduce new models when there is no one in the showroom looking for one?
jsm,
Are you thinking of trading in your 2006? Don't expect any 2010's anytime soon due to a significant slowdown in the public demand for pickup trucks. Dealers still need to clear out the 2009s which will become even more difficult shortly. The economic downturn should continue for at least another 6-12 months [bottom has not happened yet]. It's going to be a long time, if not ever, that those glory days of before will return. Future truck shipments are going to be based on either customer batch orders or recent adjusted unit sales in conjunction with demographic/geographic zones. For example, if you live in or near a city that has a population that is more cosmopolitan in nature you’re not going to find pickup trucks at the local Ford dealership unless you order one. Conversely, if you live in a town like Eugene Oregon, you might be able to find a "few" sitting on the lot. Ford, along with other manufacturers, has made required changes in production rates, what they produce, and when they produce it to achieve a more profitable business. It makes terrible business sense to "just" produce pickup trucks and think people will buy them because they feel sorry for the autoworker or the auto business in general. Also, less and less people have discretionary cash available to get boats, RVs, dirt bikes, jet skis, or any type of recreation “toys”. This eliminates the need to have a tow vehicle in someone’s stable. Sorry to report that hybrid sedans and Smart cars [2 people death traps] are the vehicles of choice lately.

ANYONE notice the added restrictions on ordering and the new "option groups" that are only available with an auto now? no manuals for lariats now. no manuals with power seats either, no manuals with nav. whatever FORD. I got rid of my 08 f450 and was planning on a 2011 which will probably be availble feb 2010, just like the 08 model was. but now I doubt it.

No big change from '09. The fast turn order (FTO) groups are for the the options that most buyers want. And that doesn't include any hand shakers, because there is almost no demand for them. So if a dealer orders a stick shifter without a customer order in hand, it will likely set on the lot unsold for too long, so it is definitely not a "fast turn" option.
For 2010, you can still order a hand shaker in XL or XLT trim, but you can't order any of the fancy stuff with it. No navigation radio, no remote start, not even the XLT Convenience pkg (Power Driver Seat, Power Adjustable Pedals, Auto unlock, keyless entry, etc.). And no Captain's chairs.

True. Manual tranny was available with Lariat trim for the last 10 years, but too few folks bought one, so they are now history. However, you can now order leather interior in an XLT, so you can still have somewhat of a luxury ride with a ZF 6-speed manual tranny. The main item you'll miss is the overhead console with the Lariat computer display.
But if you want the fancy stuff of a Cabella's, King Ranch, Harley Davidson, or even Lariat trim, they all require automagic tranny. And if you want the navigation system, remote start, or power driver's seat, then you'll have to join the modern world and order the wonderful 5R110 TorqShift automagic tranny.

thanks for repeating me, but ford is making a bad move here. the fact that no one wants one or whatever you think should make ford just get rid of the manual all together, not limit it to certain trim levels. you and I both know that there is no real reason for this other than to try and further dwindle the numbers of manuals ordered so they can justify cutting them off all together. these rules and restrictions are f-ing stupid and make no sense. when I first found this web site, I preached to everyone that our choices are going away, and since then they have cut more and more away, to just build cookie cutter yuppy truck for all the girls out there. you know its true, leather has nothing to do with power train, neither does power seats, or the navigation system. bad move on their part.

i have my bosses old truck, an 06 ford f350 dually sick-0, slipping dork-shift. its a "free" truck so to speak so I can not complain, but I know why I got rid of my 3 auto trucks so quickly, they just start felling tired too fast. anyway, he got a dodge 2500 mega cab. he does not like it, but did not want another ford or the new 6.4, so he tried it after his son did. he is like many people that say "why don't this just put this engine and tranny in ford?" gee never heard that before. I am going to seriously look at the new dodge in a few months. cab is bigger, and the pics look nice too, with a real dark gray or maybe its black leather. its worth a look anyway.

Your more likely to see smart cars in Eugene - they're way to sissy-fied to have real trucks there. Now, Roseburg, Klamath Falls & Bend, on the other hand....
