Can Job#3 F450 be ordered with 488 axle ratio and if not, will 430 increase tow rating from previous builds or is the 24,500 rating a thing of the past. My local dealers don't know what I am talking about when I ask this question.
Thanks

New to post, so hope this is the correct forum for this
If you mean the F-450 pickup, then the 4.88 axle is no longer available. 4.30 limited slip is the only axle available.
However, with automagic tranny the GCWR is 33,000 pounds, or that mythical 24,500 pounds towing capacity you mentioned. But of course that much towing capacity means you are driving a stripped truck with absolotely nothing in the truck but one skinny driver, so the wet and loaded weight of the truck is no more than 8,500 pounds before you tie onto the trailer.
For your ignorant "car" salesmen, suggest they refer to the order guide for the F-450 pickup. On page 1 it includes the Job 3 changes, including those I mentioned above.
Or get your own copy. Click on this >>> www.sunrisefordfleet.com and download the order guide from their download section.
However, if you meant the F-450 chassis cab truck, then 4.88 is standard and 4.30 is optional, and either one can have limited slip or not. The order guide for that one is different than for that city-boy pickup. The max available GCWR is 30,000 pounds, or 3,000 pounds less than the pickup. No, I don't know why.

My Sierra Blanca in the sig pic was a great pickup for 11.5 years. I sold it last year. Replacement is a 2012 F-150 EcoBoost SuperCrew Lariat.

The job 3 f-450's no longer have the 488 gears avalable.Yes the tow rating is now 33,000 lbs with the 4.30 gears.I have been told by ford customer service that this was acheived by tuning the motor slightly differently,so that max torque is now going to come in at a lower rpm than before[2000 rpm].You can take that for what ever its worth, considering it coming from a desk jockey at corporate hq.Personally i think the 430 gears could pull that weight all along.Just my 02 cents worth.

For both of you guys (gals) that answered my question, thanks- It is very difficult to get data from these ford guys. I felt sure that the 430 would handle my load ok, I was worried about the 450 and scales or god forbid an accident and they would deem me overweight. I will go ahead and order the 450 pickup with the 430. think I will hold onto my 01 F350 dually with 57,000 miles though. As stated in my post, I am new to forum so will make every effort to stay within guidelines as the info on here for the most part is great.

I have an 07 F450 with the 4.88 gears and I would very strongly recommend AGAINST getting these gears! Mileage is horrible and it drives me crazy to have my diesel engine roaring at 3400 rpm's going up a hill on the freeway. Sometimes it will even rev higher. Frankly I think it's just not in the range where the engine likes to work. And did I mention that the mileage is horrible!! I don't tow but haul around 6000 pounds when my camper is on the truck. And it doesn't even feel all that strong on the highways like it should with those gears. Just my 2 cents worth.
Thanks, I have really been sweating this axle ratio thing. When you spend 60,000 bucks you don't want to make a mistake and I keep a truck a long time. I am ordering the 450 w/the 430 axle-now that that issue is out of the way I can concentrate on a toy hauler.

I had the same question before ordering my 08 f-450.Take a look at the 08 engine and drivetrain forum,i think it's now on page 3,you'll see the thread i started 430 vs 488 gears. It's now a mute point since the 488 gears are not offered, but you will see a wide variety of opinions on this subject.
