New '08?

Went to the dealer to see about ordering a F450. He was looking to see what was out there and found a 08 job 1 truck on a lot in another state with all the options I'm looking for. He said 08's have a $8K rebate, stickers at $53,160 and he could sell it to me for around $44k. Just wondering if I need to worry about anything with that truck? Went in planning to order one, then he finds this one....what to do?

If you plan to drive it "forever", or for over 250,000 miles, then it could be a good deal. But if you plan to trade it in three or four years or sooner, it's probably not a good deal. Depreciation will eat you alive. When you drive it off the lot, wave goodby to about $10,000 in trade-in value.

2008 Job 1 trucks were produced from January to July in 2007. So it's been sitting on the lot for around 2 years. If the dealer cranked the engine and drove it around the lot every month or so, then it's probably not hurt. But if it has been sitting in the same spot for two years, I wouldn't want it.

Thanks for the info. I asked the dealer for a better deal on it, I think since its 2 years old they would be wanting to sell it pretty bad. I plan to keep whatever I buy for awhile, it will be mostly a tow vehicle for the new 5ver.

Went back to the dealer to talk numbers. Walked out paying $35,500 for it and they threw in the 5yr/100k bumper to bumper warranty. Seemed like a pretty good deal I guess. Hopefully its one of the good ones.

Really good deal. Sometimes it pays to walk away and let the dealer think about the deal.

I just picked up a used F350 Dually and I am thrilled to death.

That's the sort of deal I'm looking for.

I went looking online for a deal like that from the Ford partner web site, and even filled out the form describing what I was looking for. The local dealer where they routed the query never called me, so I emailed Ford customer care directly, and never got an answer from them either. Maybe the market isn't as bad as they say, and Ford doesn't need to sell any more cars and trucks. :-)

I assumed the dealer didn't reply because I was looking to by an '08 leftover on the X plan, so they didn't think it was worth their while to reply. But Ford customer care didn't either.

FWIW, I was looking for a new version of my current 2000 F250 rust bucket: A '08 4x4 Crew Cab diesel with a manual transmission and transfer case, but XLT trim or higher. Based on what's on the lots, and the "fast turn options" in the ordering guide, I expect that truck doesn't exist. But I figured I'd look to see if someone ordered one by mistake. :-)

I wouldn't be down on your local dealer because:

1. Your local dealer has likely pared down his staff to minimal minimal due to low sales and equally low profits = reduce staff. The person who handles web query's may no longer be with the dealer and no replacement is in sight, resulting in no web reply's.

Same with Ford Customer Care - there may not be any Customer Care personnel left in Detroit!

2. Again, don't assume the dealer did not reply for whatever reason you think he did not reply.

Go into the dealership and ask your questions in person . . . . . . . . .

If it were true, that alone would be a disincentive to buy from them at all. If they ignore you before they have your money, they'll certainly ignore you afterwards.
