And I can only hope it is not too long.... but I finally did the deed and got my order placed for a '09 F450 Lariat 4X2. Didn't get a lot of bells and whistles beyond the basic Lariat Plus package (just upfitter switches, block heater, tail gate step, heavy duty alternator as far as I can remember sine I don't have the order invoice in front of me). Opted for Sterling Grey over Black for the color and Medium Stone for the interior (gonna be spending to much time in TX for the black interior)
Used the Xplan and my dealer (has been my servicing dealer for my 2003 Dodge 2500 CTD for 4 years) gave me a top dollar trade-in and is giving me a loaner for the 6-8 weeks (hopefully not longer since the new incentives kicked in and will expire on 3/31) wait.
Of course I am already ordering or lining up aftermarket stuff... need a retractable tonneau (probably going with Retrax as I want a hard/lockable cover), an aux fuel tank that will fit under (found one that will work so far), vent visors (on order from WeatherTech), air horns and compressor (wife wants that), splash guards and bug shield (getting those from the dealer for no cost installation)... and that is before I ever get the truck .
Will be using this truck to haul around a 16.5-17K 5th Wheel when I retire at the end of the year and go full-time RV'ing... My biggest problem now is that the 450 and my '07 Dodge Caliber both won't fit in my driveway unless I put the left side duals in the yard... small sacrifice as grass will grow back.
I can only hope that this truck will be as reliable as my '03 CTD was and that the only reason I will be posting/reading here in the future will be to report good things (well I know the mileage will suck so let's get that out of the way first ).
I haven't posted much here in the past, just lurked and read... but folks here in one way or the other did a lot to influence and aid in this purchase. Thank you for that....

Once you get registered, go to the forum section, then Ford Employee Forum, then Vehicle locater by Ford Employees. You must have the DORA and Vin number before asking for a locater. It's fun to watch your truck go through the cycle. Once it is in the system, you will get a copy of the window sticker to make sure they got all of your order correct.

I ordered my 2009 F450 the first week in November. My Sales Man says that all he has is the first four and and the last three numbers of the VIN and no delivery date. I'm starting to worry. Can someone help and tell me what I should do.
Hang on. Ford shut down the Kentucky Truck Plant for several weeks, and they've just now got it back to making trucks. So your wait is much longer than the normal wait for a special order truck. But it will be delivered in a few more weeks, then you'll be glad you waited for exactly what you ordered.

Smokey Wren, thanks for the reply. I knew the plant would close for Christmas and New Years but I was not aware that it closed for several weeks. I'll continue to wait patiently.
Stopped by my dealer this weekend to pick up a copy of the DORA and they had a DRW F350 they had picked up from an auction to sell on their lot... they let me have for the overnight and today (Sunday).. my wife has never driven a dually, so we have been out running around.. some in-town doing the parking lot thing and some interstate.. this is a early build (8/7) but only has 13,800 miles on it.. also it is a 4X4... but all in all she got the general idea.. the lie-o-meter on the interstate at ~65 was showing near 15.. at 55 on the back roads, near 16.. at 70 it dropped to 13.5.. still all in all not as bad as I expected.. no idea of the gearing... took a bit to get used to in the steering aspect coming from my Dodge Caliber R/T.. and even my '03 Dodge 2500 CTD didn't tend to "wander" as much... but that could be just me getting used to the wheel input necessary to keep a straight line...
I don't want to give it back as this little taste makes the wait seem even longer..
