Is the 08' 5.4L a good choice??

I did some building on Fords website and didn't realize that the 2008 5.4L in the SuperDuty increased in power to 310hp from 260, can't remember the tq. Any here with the 5.4L could chime in on driving impressions. I was thinking of going with a 6-Speed Manual and 4.10 gears since I plan on putting 33"? - 35"? Tires. I guess when I get the time I'll go down and test drive one but just thought I get some feedback. Any idea what I could expect in MPG and PowerAddOns?

I have the 5.4 motor and like it ok. If the dealer would have had a 10 cyl. in stock I would have spent the 600 clams for it, but the 8 cyl. is ok for me. Haven't towed with it, but it plows and sands great. Milage is 14 mpg hwy. Part of it's "talent" lies in the nice 5-speed auto transmission that comes in the '08. The motor is very smooth. I can't spin the tires, but it keeps up with any traffic around here. I have 3.73 LS rear too--on stock tires. I'd have gotten the 4.11 if the dealer had it, again.

What are you planning on doing with the truck, from what I can tell there is 1-2 MPG difference between the V10 - V8. You will be lucky if you have dealer that has both the V10 and V8 gassers on the lot, I never could test drive a V10 before I ordered because nobody had one on the lot. All diesels around here.

I'd get the V-10 too if it is an option. I drove one the other day and it was awesome. More power than even my mildly modded truck. I noticed you live in Hawaii, what do you plan to use the truck for?

I'm a Tile Contractor so most of the loads will focus on payload capacity in the bed, Materials/Tile ect but I will be using a trailer in the future for hauling material. I guess as long as you don't travel East to West through the Koolau Mountains, Hills aren't to big of a concern. Over here diesel is ranging from $4.01-$4.10 and regular unleaded $3.43-$3.55, though outer-islands are already peaking at $5 but there always significantly higher than O'ahu, about 20-60cents. I was reading the thread about MPG and find the only benefit the diesel will provide me right now is my appetite for Diesel Turbo Power other wise I'd prefer the 5.4 even over the v-10 if it means better mpg and still great performance.
?? Would the 5.4 haul loads better with the manual given there's no torque converter to slip??

?? As far as Mods for the 5.4 any suggestions ?? Mahalo

Get the V10 with 4.10s if you plan on hauling a trailer or a lot of payload. I get right around 15-16 on the highway and like 12-13 city with V10 4.10LS 6 speed. For only 600 bucks more there is no worry about pulling anything.
