'08 axle ratios for gas engines

Ford lets you order a V-8 auto with the 3.73 and 18" tires but makes you go to a 4.10 with the bigger V-10 and 18" tires. Does anyone have any idea why that is? Seems the larger engine would allow a higher rear end ratio. Also please commit on mileage with the V-8 auto F-250 4x4 and the V-10 auto F-250 4x4. Thanks

I have an '08 V-10 4X4 with the V-10 and 4.10. I consider it the best of all worlds. Good towing, great accelleration, decent mileage and fun to drive. I am getting 11-12 with around town and highway mixed. I averaged 8.4 while towing my 4-wheelers this past weekend. I now have 16k on the odometer and the only mods are a K&N dropin air filter and a Diablo-Sport Predator set at 91octane mid-performance program. This truck rocks and the interior plus the factory options are the best I have encountered. The '08 is worth getting and now seems to be a good time to buy with all of the incentives.
