'08 V-10 Engine Issues/Concerns

Last week my company delivered a new truck to me here in Helena and I have probably driven less than 100 miles since then. My first issue is the noisy cooling fan, is everybody's fan loud? This is not a quiet engine. My last truck was a 2006 with the 5.4L and it was WAY quieter in the cab. In the cab it sounds like I am driving a bus.

Also, the truck sat all weekend and when I started it this morning it puked out a bunch of smoke. I am suspecting leaky valve seals, but this truck has less than 800 miles on the clock.

Anybody else have these issues?

I have almost 14k on my new 2008 V-10 and haven't had a single complaint. I will say under WOT it is a little loud, but I added a K&N drop-in air filter and figure that has something to do with it. I also ordered the snowplow package which comes with a larger radiator and larger fan. Maybe that package keeps the fan from coming on so often. I wouldn't change a thing on my truck, I love it.

Hi Pappy, nice looking truck! So are the intakes on the side of the fenders functional? David

On the 2006 and up they seem to be. I have been on other gasser sites and the consensus is that spending alot of money on larger intake and exhaust systems just doesn't do anything for the dyno and very little on mileage. I did a dropin K&N filter and bumped me 1 mpg. It's a little louder at WOT, but not bad. One thing about it, I won't spend much on emgine mods on this V-10 as compared to my past diesels, like $300 on the Predator and another $40 for the filter. That's about it. I might splurge and get a chrome tip for my exhaust this summer.
