09 F150 5.4 vs 5.7 Hemi

Tell me about 09 F150s and the 5.4? What about the new 6 speed auto? I'm looking and wanting to compare the Ford to the 09 Dodge.I've never owned a Ford truck but interested in a F150 2wd to tow with but mainly to haul my butt around with in comfort.

You might get better information on F150online I have a 2000 F-150 4x4 with a 5.4 and 147000 miles and it has been flawless.

You would be better to go to F150online.com for real answers. That said, I've got a 2008 Supercrew King Ranch that I pull a 6,900# travel trailer with no issues. It won't win any race awards, but it has guts enough for a daily drive (about 55k/year) and anothe 5k towing a year. I have been stricly diesel since 1999, so the F-150 can't be all that bad if a dyed-in-the-wool diesel boy is bragging about his F-150.

The new six-speed in the 2009 F-150 is supposed to be fantastic. We just got a 2008 Expedition EL wih the 5.4L and the six-speed and I can't say enough godd about it. It is phenominal. The first gear is low and quick to shift, but I am sure it will move a load with ease.

I read somewhere the new 2009 Ford F-150 (5.4L) is about 0.4 of a second slower than the 5.7L Hemi, but the Ford will also get you there with gasoline to spare, while the Hemi will abuse your gas cap threads from taking it off so much.

There is a reason that the largest selling and most popular 1/2 ton pickup has been the Ford F-150 for the past 20 years. If they didn't hold up and wern't super dependable, people would not buy them. Our company has had 10 Expeditions or F-150's in the past 18 years and only one had a few warranty issues, mostly electronics on that particular one. All of the other vehicles had ZERO issues!! Just gas it and go; do the oil changes, brakes, and other normal maintenance items. They are good rigs, that's why they are so popular.

So why are so many troubles with the F-250-550? Even mine had 3 or 4 mayor issues. Still running strong, though.

The question was regarding F-150's not 6 leaker diesels. Except for the 7.3 Powerstroke, Ford has muffed the next series of diesel engines, IMHO. Even if the 6.4 winds up to be a decent engine, ANY work to be done on this new engine requires the entire cab to be removed. How stupid is that? Add the new EPA "soot bag" and you've got enough reasons for me to get a V-10 in my 2008 Super Duty and I am lovin' it. If you are looking for a sturdy, well designed 1/2 ton, get a Ford F-150. If you need a 3/4-1 ton, get a V-10 Ford Super Duty.
