I was curious what the break in period is for this vehicle and what you guys are averaging for MPG. I read about what people were getting on the 250 and was curious if there was a drastic difference with the F350 model.
I currently am getting 8.5mpg. I do notice sometimes that I will drive 6 miles to work and i will drop about 10 miles on my miles to empty. When i got the truck it was reading about 5.2MPG but has since went up to 8.5.
I was getting about 9 when I first got my truck. I added the K&N dropin filter and gained 1 mpg and it went to 10. I am now getting almost 12mpg with the Diablosport Predator in the middle, 91 octane, setting.

I have the same truck, 20" wheels, 4:10. Have 3700 miles so far and get 8.8 in city which is most of my driving. Have gotten 12.6 on highway only miles. A mix of both seems to be around 10. Towing a 7K trailer seems to get around 8.
so far...
Regarding breakin period; I feel that my engine has seated the rings by now and can feel a difference in power. Since the factory doesn't use a "breakin oil" and it is all synthetic, it takes alot longer to seat rings. I had one fellow tell me his didn't really feel broken in until he hit 40k. That was an '06 V-10. Alot depends on how hard you run it. Towing heavy up a long mountain a few times should do the trick, but I wouldn't do that until you had about 5-10k on the engine. Just towing on more or less level ground surely won't hurt, no matter what.

That's about the same mileage as the new diesels of all species. For an additional $7k, the V-10 has become the engine to go with. I can tell you of numerous new diesel owners that are now crying the blues and wishing they had bought a V-10 gasser. I sure love mine...no regrets at all.

I concur Pappy. Not everyone needs a diesel. However, I believe for those of us who pull heavy loads/trailers, most of us are pretty dang happy. Compared to my old gasser, my diesel is a dream come true.

I get around 10-11 in town and can see 13-14 on the highway if I baby it. Mixed mostly city I average around 11.8-12.
I am seeing the same on mine (08 F350 crew with 4:10's) with only 600 mixed miles on it. Thats calculated as well, not just going by the computer, which is actually showing the same average of 11.8 MPG. Went up from showing 10.2 when I pulled it off the lot. That isnt babying it either. I can already atest that the limiter kicks in at a cool 96MPH

Congrtas on your '08, best looking rig on the market.
350 will deliver almost identical mileage to the 250 unless it's a dually.
Also worth bearing in mind is that everyone's driving habits are different and every engine is slightly different from the next, too.
2008 F350 V10 Mpg gets lower mpg than my 6.4l F450. I get 13-14 in city and 11-13 highway. pulling a 18000 lbs Toy hauler trailer around 8 mpg both City or Highway
That's true; but the diesel is a $7K option on a F250 or F350 while the V10 is a $600 option. INMO, that plus the fact diesel is around a dollar a gallon more than gas and 15 quart oil changes versus 5 or 6 quart makes the V10 a bargain even if it gets a couple of MPG less than the diesel. I have had a Ford diesel since 1984; for my purposes I cannot justify the extra expense of a diesel in my next truck therefore I will go with the V10.

There's no question that you need the 450 and the diesel if you're routinely pulling 18K. But for those of us who don't routinely pull that much, the V10 will get the job done and, with current fuel prices, still save money.

My V-10 gets within 1-2 mpg of the new diesels, except for the Chevy which is slighly better than both the Ford and Dodge.
