2010 V10 or 2011 BOSS V8

I was going to trade my 2005 6.0 dually for a SRW F350 next fall. I originally was going to go V10 because I'm tired of the un-reliability and poor fuel economy of the new diesels. My question, if you were going to purchase a new F350 gas, would you jump now and buy a V10 or would you wait for the BOSS 6.2 V8. I do love the look of the 2011's and a V8 would sound better with an exhaust than a V10. I will be driving the truck approx. 20,000 miles a year. Of that 20,000 miles, under 1,500 will be towing my 11,000# fifthwheel. I did go to the local Ford dealer and they told me I had until December to order a 2010. Any input would be appreciated.

I woulId definately go for the proven and reliable V-10, but that's just me. I have one so I "may" be a little biased. I just wouldn't get the first year of anything major like an engine. History says there will be alot of problems the first year or so. Might be a great new engine, but I expect when it is mass produced and the public at large gets their hands on it, there will be alot of changes, reflash, TSB's, etc.

Same here. If you want risk take the new one. If you want reliability take the proven engine.

Everytime I waited at least one year for a new engine which has been proven to work out. For a new body style or sheet metal change I did not wait which turned out to never being an issue.

Another big thing to consider is that the 10 produces it's torque and HP at a much lower RPM which is better for towing situations.

Boss V8
Max HP - 411 @ 5500 rpm
Max Torque - 434 @ 4500 rpm

V10
Max HP - 362 @ 4750 rpm
Max Torque - 457 @ 3250 rpm

Just got my 2010 V-10 last Friday and love it, sold my 2007 6.0 and this thing is great. I plan on leeping this for a while so a proven track record is most important.

Good Luck with your decision !!

Torque is king when towing, I am hoping the new 6 speed tranny makes up for some torque. And I hope Ford has appropriate rear gear ratios for the 6.2. aka 4.30+

I would get the Boss. Trust me it will move your 5th wheel. It makes 50 more hp and 30 less tq. It's not that big of a difference. Plus with a six speed just think how much better gas mileage you will get vs a v-10 with a 5spd.

I am in the same boat. I may have to make the move a little faster though as my 6.0 has a different problem every month. The V10's are hard to find which stinks

Get the 10 and order exactly what you want. They are way to hard to find on a lot, never mind with the options you may want. Plus, even if the 6.2 does the job, who wants a first year motor? If your in the market now, take advantage of the 10 still being available...

Well, my needs have changed since I originally posted this thread. I have sold my fifthwheel and don't plan on buying another one. Now the only thing I will be towing occassionally ( a few times a year) is a 7X16 enclosed cargo trailer weighing around 5,000-6,000 pounds. With that said, should I buy a 5.4 triton or wait for the 6.2 Boss V8?

If you want it safe take the 5.4. If you want to gamble take the Boss.

well thats a tough one. right now you will get a pretty good deal on an 09 or 10 but I say hold off as the 11's start to hit the lots there will be better deals to be had/ But I like what I am reading about the BOSS. I am leaning twards the Boss with the new truck.

i would opt for the 2011. im sure it will have a warranty and hopefully any bugs will be worked out before warranty is up. the big thing to me is that you are buying and brand new truck, only to have a newer model come out right around the corner. if you are buying a new truck, you might as well spend your money on the newer truck with all the new technology that comes along with it.
