I am kind of in the same boat....I thought I had a smokin deal on a V10 price wise, and 0% financing for 72 months, for a truck this particular dealer had in stock, not my regular dealer. The entire thing was done online. When it came to the actual buying time, it was the old bait and switch to get me into the dealership, needless to say, I walked out the door.
Now I am debating whether to just order a 2011 with the new V8 instead. I'm thinking the new V8 with the 6 speed should get 15-16 empty on the highway? What do you guys think?

A very good friend of mine works w/ the St of TX and some of their vehicles are the 250's, some V-10 and some V8's. Apparently the V8's are gutless for towing and don't get crap for mileage.
I had the 5.4 in my F150 and it too was gutless at low speed. The OHC motors like to breath but require the higher rpms to do so. I could tow but I had to keep the OD off which kept my rpms around 4500. I would venture to say my 94 bronco w/ the 351 has more SOTP torque feel vs the 5.4 I had.
From what i've read and talked to other owners about, the milage for the 5.4 vs V10 will be the same when towing and only a slight difference when unloaded. After my 5.4 got broke in my mileage ave about 14-15 and i drove mainly highway/interstate back and forth to work and it was no difference when on long trips.
I'd order the V10 with EXACTLY what you want, call around to get the best rates, then enjoy the spoils of your labor.
I had a brand new 2000 F250 S/B 4x4 with the V10. Best engine I ever owned for pulling/reliability. I would have a fully self contained camper on the back towing my wrangler and would easily do 70-75 MPH up the grade of the Grapevine here in California or over the pass either way from CA to Nevada. It just pulled like hell, and even if some dick head trucker pulled in front of me to slow me down, once I got around him and punched that engine I would be up to 70 again with all that load, even up a steph grade. The only problem I had was range, going over the pass at 70 I would average 3-4 MPG. Crusing across Nevada to Utah with the Cabover doing 65 my MPG was 6-7. With the short bed and 29 gallon tank that meant my range was between 120 and 160 miles. Even my wife, who usually notices nothing, commented on how often we had to stop, and I was always sweating it out if I would make it to the next gas station.
I recently bought a F350 SRW S/B 6.0 Diesel. it has 20K miles on it. Someone had 5th wheel hitch on it but other than that it is immaculate. The Oasis report only showed some gaskets being replaced for that common oil leak, I can't recall, bed leak or something. I have put 19.5 Rickson wheels with the 265/70 Kumho tires on it as I am again going to buy a self contained cabover. Read end ration is 3.73, I am getting about 16 MPG in mixed driving. I am hoping this improves as the engine breaks in.
If I can get 10-12 MPG with the camper on then I guess I doubled my range. But honestly, if I buy another truck, I may just buy one of these more effiient gassers. It appears the maintenance headaches are a lot less. I will just go with a long bed with the larger tank and possibly put a saddle tank if I have to
Hey superduty123 easy on the "dick head trucker" comments. We are not all bad. I could say the same thing about the dick head four wheelers that cut off big trucks not realizing that we can't stop on a dime. We all have to share the road and there are some bad apples in all cases. Ok rant done. Anyway no hard feelings just had to get my 2 cents in.

I just came back from SoCal on I5 where it is essentially 2 lanes in each direction for about 250 miles. You get these truckers who try to pass each other, but the takeover rate in a lot of cases is just 1 or 2 MPH, which means huge back ups with people riding a foot off of each other bumpers. I swear these guys swerve out to pass right when a wolf pack of cars is about to pass at 80, and everyone slows down to 45 until the two trucks finally pass each other.
Back to the V-10, it usually was dick head mini van drivers, who probably had their Caravan, Astrovan, Aerostar, etc etc floored doing 40 MPH in the fast lane unwilling to pull over either going North or South to or from LA over the grapevine that would really frost my balls. It was fun though to brush pass these idiots with the cabover doing 70 and actually gaining speed.
Anyway, the V 10 was a great engine. I bought this 6.0L six months ago. I bought it to go fishing and pheasant hunting with a camper. I must say, I am kind of scared sh**Tless right now after being on this site for a few months in taking this thing anywhere from a major interstate. If it wasn't for the Rickson wheels, Roadmaster sway bar, xl9000 shocks, airbags and 2" leveling lift I have sunk into this thing, I might seriously think about selling it and getting another V10
