5.4 mods

hey guys just ordered my reg cab f250 xlt with a 6sp manual and 5.4 v8, cant wait to get it. after doing A LOT of surfing around websites i kinda disappointed about the lack of performance parts available. the only exhaust i have found is by flowmaster and unfortunatly its not stainless. could we start a thread dedicated just to parts for this engine, with reviews, where you found the part ect.

Good luck getting answers, thats my thread below the one you started and its a month old with one reply. I have installed a K&N filter and went from 13.2 to 14 mpg. I have only 7700 miles so engine breakin could be causing the increase. My Flowmaster exhaust should be in this week so I will post after install. I am leary of the programmers, $400 and no garantee of mpg increase. I have an auto with 3.73 gears and factory 20" wheels. The tires are the same height as the 35" I have on my other 4X4 so when these wear out maybe some larger ones. Only regret was not getting 4.10 rearend. I have friends with diesels not getting the mgp I am, but they can pull a hell of a lot more. I pull maybe once a month so gas works for me.

yeah i ordered 4.10's, in anticipation for adding bigger tires. i'd like to know what you think of the exhaust after you get it. i may order mine this week along with some high temp paint to coat it with, keep it from rusting.

I got a good friend who does the rear ends for most nascar teams and he will do my re gear for free, I just buy the parts. I am probably going with 4.56 when I do it.A supercharger may come first though. I can't beleive that over a 126 people have viewed this thread and have no input. Please get involved.

no i didnt think think of ceramic coating what kind of $ we talking about with that? i can spray bomb it for about $10, i know it wont be as durable but a touch up a few times a year is ok with me. and yeah i agree with the guy above, how come so many views and so little response? i've been to atleast 5 dealerships in my area and half the trucks on the lot have the 5.4 v8 in them, there has got to be a lot of people who own them?

it's more than "rattle can" job, but done right it only has to be done once.

I am interested in this topic as well. I have an 08 with the 5.4 as well with a flowmaster super 44 on it. I love how it sounds but i would like to find some more performance products. Any updates on intakes, programmers, or anything?

I just got a custom tune for my '01 V10 from Mike at 5-star tuning, using an SCT X3 tuner. 5 Star Tuning | Custom Dynomemeter Chassis Tuning Products and Services

My 0-60 times were around the 10 second mark (9.7 to 10.4 using datalogging yesterday, and 9.9-10.0 using stopwatch a few days ago).

The 0-60 time is now 9.01-9.04 seconds on his 87 octane performance tune. That's around a 10% improvement in acceleration times. For a 6900 lbs truck with 3.73 gears, that's a huge difference.

Of course, that doesn't directly apply to a 2008 5.4, but it does give you an idea what can be done. And Mike has had great luck with the fly-by-wire throttle response.

I have worked on an '00 f150 lightning a few times. Granted it has the supercharger, but it does have the 5.4 V8. He has custom tunes from JDM engineering, Jim Sr. and Jim jr. May want to call them and see if they do tunes for a regular 5.4 (732) 780-0770

mine is on a f150 but its the same engine. GET THE EVOLUTION PROGRAMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is hands down the best programmer I have ever seen in a gas engine. Great power, 3 different setting and you get a pod that show MPH, Trans temp, a bunch of options. you can also reset for different tire size and gears

Cool o8 f250 4x4 crewcab

I have a 2008 f250 4x4 crewcab w a 5.4L.. 8" fabtech lift...stock rims.. I get about 9.4 MPG not pulling anything.. I am also looking to pep it up a little bit, nothing special but so far only intake I have found is by AiRaid and K&N. K&N just being the filter replacement and AiRaid being the "Cold Air" intake Airaid Intake, 08-09 Ford F250, F350 w/ 5.4L or 6.8L:eBay Motors (item 360147016628 end time Jul-12-09 21:54:15 PDT)

other than that I have thought about exhaust and a programmer, not sure on using the programmer with my warranty though.. I am not trying to make my truck fast but I know its possible to atleast get it running better than it is, I cant believe they wouldent have more performance products for a truck with the "smallest" engine in its class.. you would think everyone with one would be doing the same and trying to make it just a little bit stronger since it does lack for the trucks size....
