I posed this in the diesel section but I want the gasser guys input as well!!
How are you guys liking the new trans??
This may be the same model # trans that was used in the 03's but from what i understand it has been revamped for the new 6.4.
I have been reading that is handles a fair amount 4-500hp w/o any problems so far.
I'm thinking about a motor and trans swap and i'd like the extra gear of the 5R110. PCS has a stand alone controller for this trans and destroked has adapters, therefore I was considering it.
Motor wise, the mechanics @ the dealership told me to stick w/ the 7.3 so I might rebuild or drop in a cummins. Either way I'd love to use the 5R110 if it has become a solid tranny.
Just ask any Ford dealer service manager how many of the TS trannys have come in for a problem. I'd bet it's below 5% of all Super Duties ever made since the TS tranny was installed. It has a much better record than the Chevy Allison from what I hear, and the Dodge auto is a joke.

Pappy hit it on the head. I will not bag the Allison, no need when you have the best, but our trannys have been pushing close to 2000 lbs. of torque on some of these hot rod test diesels. The Allison as was described to me by a tranny wrench is a 1000 ft. lb. of torque tranny and maybe 1200 at best.
I do not think that my 4R100 could do 1000.. I may be wrong. Even with the Banks TC I had installed that number would have been pushing it.. my opinion only.
Wow as I am typing info on the 2011 SD arrived on the phone. Info regaqrding the engine and tranny. The rest of the truck is close to the same including all the deletes with Ca emissions. It is Mike Rowe again just saying the same thigs he has said when this first came out. no alarms on power specs yet.

Sure they could. They all did in STOCK trucks!
The 1000 lb-ft rating is after the torque converter multiplies engine torque. It can't handle 1000 lb-ft of torque from the engine, and neither can the 5R110.

This might be an interesting tid bit? Don't know if it's true or not.....
Was talking to my local dealership salesman this afternoon. We're in the process of maybe building me a new rig since my 6.4 is still in the shop (since November 9th) and after all your input (thanks everyone) I'm going to rid myself of the 6.4 or 6leaker as Pappy says and hopefully get a 2011 V-10! This will all depend on the Lemon Law suit that is currently in the hands of my attorney. I won't bore you with all the details (see 6.4 forum for the thread on "blowing engines left and right" for my sad story)
Anyway, my good friend and salesperson (yes, it's possible) was telling me that if I can wait til' January, that a new T/S Transmission is coming out that will be a 6 speed that will also have a manual over ride button on the steering wheel that will let you manually pick what ever gear that you wish, kinda' like the old hand shaker that I currently have and no longer get in any of the new trucks Ford is offering....or at least making it almost impossible to get one anymore - they are going the way of the dinosaur!
Anybody hear about this? Again, I don't know if it's true or not - but if it is, it might be a really neat feature to have? Don't you think?
Feel free to chime in, sorry don't mean to high jack the thread but it's kind of along the same lines of what Powerlifter is asking about....
Cheers from the Colorado Rockies friends~
Leo
