I havent test drove a new v10 yet but I did test drive a 2006 ram 2500 with the hemi...It felt pretty fast I know Its alot quicker than my 6.0...how do yall think it would compare to the v10 as far as mileage light towing and acceleration???

330k miles and a straigh exhaust. Sold and missed dearly.
I ran up against a Dodge Hemi half ton with duel exhaust, don't know if it was chipped or not, but I whipped him pretty bad on a long hill. In addition to the "more grunt" of a V-10, the new Torqueshift tranny keeps the rpm's up and shifts very fast. I would expect mileage between the hemi and the V-10 to be about the same, especially in a 3/4 ton.

In short: the V10 is the slowest unloaded in their tests. No doubt due to the 1200lb weight disadvantage it has. Good towing involves a lot more than that, of course...I'll take the 1200lb in return for the awesome stability and strength of the superduty.
V-8's are Ok in 1/2 tons but I prefer something a little better in the 3/4 tons, especially something bigger like my Crew Cab SuperDuty. Why Ford even offers the SD with the V-8 is beyond me, if it's such a great idea why was the V-10 standard in the Excursion? (Yes, I know... price point and market) With the V-8's you are having to put your foot into it so much the gas mileage is a moot point, at least from my experience.
You know the old saying... "Nothing beats cubic inches..."
Atcually, you could get the 5.4L in an excursion. There are quite a few floating around, but most of them are V10 models.

I tried to find the test in Truck Trend, but couldn't find it. About a year ago, Truck Trend did a heads up test between all 3 big truck makers including their diesels and gas models. The test included solo and towing the same RV trailer with times, braking, mileage, etc. Chevy was the top diesel and Ford V-10 was the top gasser. In fact, TT said that the Ford V-10 was the closest to performing as good as a diesel that they had ever experienced. The only test that the V-10 didn't stay right with ALL of the diesels was a super steep pull with the trailer. They also said that it would be a rare instance when someone would encounter a hill that steep in the real world. Bottom line was that the Ford V-10 stayed with all of the diesels except for a few instances.

A friend and I hauled hay from a pasture about 20 miles to my place. He has a '99 F-250 with the V-10. He had his trailer maxed out with 13 large rolls of hay while I had 12 rolls on my trailer(my trailer is shorter). There wasn't any doubt that the F-250 was grossly overloaded but the V-10 had no problems running 65 mph on the interstate. He was probably running in 3rd most of the time and at 3500rpm but the V-10 just hummed right along. I think the V-10 makes a lot of sense in an F-250/350 single rear wheel truck. If you need a DRW truck then the diesel makes sense. If I drop down in truck size I doubt if I'll get another diesel. Just getting too complicated.
To be honest, if I was to pull a trailer very much I would opt for the diesel; but for day-to-day driving and hauling stuff around in the box I'll stick with gas.
Does Dodge not offer the V-10 any longer in the Rams? I find it hard to believe the Ford V-10 bested the big Dodge V-10...
nope they do not...and GM dose not offer the 496ci any more...Ford is the only company that offers I guess a "big block". Ive read that the Ford isnt as quick as the GM and Dodge but will pull far better than the little V8's lol and with the same or better fuel economy...I pretty figured out If you need or want a gasser (I do) to get the v10. It just makes sense to get the 6.8 v10 their just hard to find the one I want.

GM still has the 496/502 as a marine application, I believe; I do know they disappeared it as an option on the trucks, sadly.
The manufacturers have kind of eliminated the purpose of the big block gas motors with the availability of the diesels. Now that the Big 3 each have a decent diesel I'm sure the market for the big gas motors has dwindled...
