Thinking about trading in my 07 F450 4x4 6.0 PSD on a new F550 4x4 V10.
Are there substantial changes for the 08 model year?
Minor changes that I should watch out for?
I only ask since this site created a new section for the 08's.
The biggest change on the V-10 in 2008 from what I hear is the change in the manafold and exhaust system. It looks awsome with the semi-headers and duel cats coming down. I also think the new 2008 dash setup is way better than anything I have seen and used. Hooked up to the torque shift tranny and 4.88's, you'll pull the house down, but I don't expect your mileage to be great. From what the 6.4 boys are saying, if they get over 12, they feel good, so maybe the V-10 in a 450 will do OK afterall mileage wise. Power wise, I think you'll be surprised at the power that new V-10 really has.

I'm probably not the one to ask but I think the F450-550 can only be had with the 6.4L Diesel. It would be worth a phone call to your local dealer before you get your hopes up.

The latest order guide I have says the 6.4L is STANDARD on the F-450. I don't think the V-10 is an option. If it is, I wonder what the credit is for the diesel.

Thanks for the reply's! I have received a quote from my dealer and yes I can get the V10 in the F550. I just have to order it. He's searched far a wide but couldn't find me one in stock. I've also found out that the only gears available on the F550 are the 4.88's. I'm giving that a lot of second thoughts, maybe even a third thought. My current F450 PSD has the 4.88 gears and the mileage is terrible. I'd be curious if anyone has the 4.88 gears what kind of mileage you are getting. Thanks everyone!

You are probably referring to the F450 pickup, which is completely different than ordering a F450/F550 cab chassis. The cab chassis come standard with the V10. LS

I have an 03 F450 with the 4.88's When I bought it the MPG was 6 around town, 7.7 on the open highway. I installed a free flow exhaust, and it still gets 6 in town, but now about 10.5 on the highway. It weighs 11,500 empty, and usually does not have more than 5,000# on it 1/3 of the time. I considered changing the gears to 4.10's because the 4.88's are overkill for a lightly loaded truck. 90 % of my driving is in the city, so it would not help much. LS
LSchicago2: Do you have the V10 or PSD? Thanks for the info, looks like we're in the same boat! I can get around 7 mpg in town and up to 9 on the highway using cruise control and keeping my speed down. At first I thought it was the camper giving me such lousy mileage but it doesn't really change much without the camper. If I'm very careful I can bump my mpg's up by 1 mpg without the camper on the truck so the camper doesn't matter much at all. I was hoping to install some larger tires to get my gear ratio back down but now with the price of diesel so high I'm thinking about a gas truck instead. At least I'll be paying about $.40 a gallon less for gas!
Eng1Driver: His sig is an 05 F450 PSD but he talks about his 03 F450. I took this to mean that he has two rigs. That was why I asked about his 03. Or maybe I'm getting to old to read through all his upgrades! Sure wish I had half of his upgrades!! lol!
It is my understanding nothing has changed on the '08 V10, it's the same as the '05-07 3-valvers.
One thing that has changed according to my Ford mechanic is the exhaust system. Used to it came out into one cat. Now there is a cat for each side and then into a single exhaust. It's a pretty nice looking setup.

My 06' has two small cats, one for each side before the pipes join into one also. I think they went to that system in 05'. My old 02' only had one big cat.
