I seriously doubt you can get enough HP out of a programmer to hurt the engine or trans with a V10, a 6.0, that's another story.
Can't remember when the Torqueshift tranny started on the 6.0. I know that it was a year or two before it became standard on the V-10 as well.

Im sad to see everyone heading off to buy gassers this year i have 150,000 miles on my truck dont think ill ever trade it in for a gas i would cross the lines and buy a new dodge cummins before i went to go buy a gasser. If you put a exhaust dpf delete on the dodges you can easily see just as good a mileage as the older pre emissions diesels

Why? The V10 is the most reliable engine Ford has for the Super Duty. I love the Cummins, just not the dodge package. If I ever blow the V10, I'd consider a Cummins swap, if fuel prices are more in line, not this $1.00-$1.30 extra crap here now. I will never own another 6.0 or 6.4, that I can guarantee.
I love this V-10 as well. Just look at the problems discussed on this forum alone for all of the diesel engines, including my old favorite 7.3 . Now go to any Ford site and look up the issues with the V-10 since 2003 when they added another thread series for the spark plugs. That's about the only serious problem this engine ever had. Next, look at the TSB's on diesels vs gassers, especially the 6.8 V-10. For 2008, I have not seen the first one for the V-10. No new flashes, no TSB's, and no problems. Just gas her up and go. That alone is worth alot to me.

I love my 2008 6.4 L. I do not see why some people have problems with them. Ford has fixed any problem I had Only one.F450 truck pulls my 18000+ pounds Toy hauler fith wheel with no problems. I get 8 to 9 MPG pulling and 12 to 14 not pulling. If gas price jump up and diesel go down ( I do not think that would happen But I did not think my home would be $80000 less from three year ago. what will you all do then? It could happen
I am sure that all of us here on the "gasser" forum are very happy that you and all of the other 6.4, 6.0,7.3 Powerstroke, etc diesel owners are liking their rigs. We are not here to start an "us vs them" or "mine is better" situation. That being said up front, many of us were diesel engine owners and switched for any number of reasons. I had no complaints at all with my 2002 7.3, except maybe for the tranny and a Suncoast fixed that. But when the price of diesel went sky high and I knew that after I hit 200k on mine, the value would drop considerably. So, I sold it. I decided then that I wasn't going to get another diesel engine due to the fact that Ford had another "new" diesel engine; totally unproven. I don't know how many 6.0's have gone over 100k without any problems, but I know of many V-10's that have made that far and more without any problems at all. In fact, theFord engine with the very best track record of no problems, goes to the V-10. Just ask your Ford service department and ask him if he gets a V-10 in for an engine issue. I'll bet you will be surprised. So again, we are glad you like your 6.4 and wish you the best of luck with it. Us gassers like our V-10's for the many reasons you like your 6.4. So be it.

the V10 truck crew cab can not towing my trailer weight it max weight for towing is only for a 6.8L F350 4x4 is 15600 lbs same 6.4L F350 4x4 is 17800 lbs for F450 no 6.8L only 6.4l max weight is 24100 lbs so for big trail the 6.4l is the way to go with out going over weight the truck and have no problem with the state police for over gcwr LBS.
these is for a fifth wheels trailers here the site infor

Chuck,
I don't think anyone will disagree with you in that the diesel engine is the better choice for heavy towing. Most folks don't really tow that heavy that often though. When I am hooked to my LQ, I will be "overweight". I am not really concerned too much, though, because the LQ doesn't get out of the driveway very much any more. I have been trying to sell the LQ, but no one's really interested in a $50k horse trailer these days. If it doesn't sell, it can sit in the driveway and look pretty I guess. It'll sure be nice on those rare occassions when I get to spend the night in it.

I will not put my child's life, my wife's life or my own life, much less someone else's life in jeopardy. If I ever felt that I couldn't handle the rig or I was otherwise unable to drive safely, I would pull over and figure something else out. I have pulled over many times when I was too sleepy to safely continue driving. If I ever got the impression that my truck was not handling the trailer safely, I would limp off the road and stop the outfit somewhere safe. All this being said, my best guess at this time is that the max distance I will likely pull my LQ trailer is about 40 miles and will only be two, maybe three times next summer if I am lucky. I actually only pulled it twice this summer and that was 20 miles roundtrip for camping and 20 miles one way to the dealer's lot to try to sell on consignment (that is not going too good given the economy so I'll probably bring the thing home one of these days). Otherwise, I pull a smaller stock trailer to haul the horses and my truck is overkill for that set up.
Sorry to hear about your friend.

Your truck is what, maybe a year old? Come see us in 4-5 years and tell us about your 6.4 then. You will have many issues by then. Even my 6.0 was good for a year and a half. Then all hell broke loose, one thing at a time. Well over $20,000 in engine & trans repairs, before 80,000 miles!
your correct I am 1/2 to your 80000 mile mark 30000 mile on it Truck been on the road 02/07 . But was your truck cover under the engine 100000 mile warranty and the trans the same one in the V10 ? So you would have problem with the Tran any one you had the 6.0 or the V10.
